You talk about the media lying and you put those two charts in a thread like this :-X
Firstly, the top one is completely wrong (the title does not describe the data) and a simple check on the stats shows that there were 173 mass shootings in which people died the US in 2015 alone. That's about 0.5 on that scale. Basically for that graph to be correct, there would need to have been no other mass shootings in that time frame. Obviously the author of that graph was using a different definition of "mass shooting" and not the widely accepted one of:
FOUR or more shot and/or killed in a single event [incident], at the same general time and location, not including the shooter.

http://www.shootingtracker.com/

The second graph, while true of content, is intentionally misleading. The US is 94th in the list of countries by "murder rates (per 100,000 inhabitants)". And that means that the group of countries to the left of the US should be significantly larger than the group on the right. Basically, to give an accurate picture, the author should have included all 219 countries with stats on that chart. At that point it would be very clear that the US is well outside the group of developed countries and in among developing countries in terms of murder rate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. These graphs fall into the latter use of lying. It's as bad as Van Jones' retweets, and the half-truths that the Daily Wire relies on for it's articles.

Calling something a "lie" or "fake news" simply because your brain refuses to believe it doesn't make it untrue. A mass shooting is defined as one where 4 or more people are killed at random (this excludes gang warfare and such). Some people keep trying to liberalize the definition so as to include more and more shootings to promote the idea that society is becoming worse and more violent, but that's simply not true. In that respect the graph is accurate as far as I can tell. Of course, Norway is a bit of an outlier because of the 2011 shooting where 77 people were killed. Take out Norway, and you get the following...

Trying to wrap my head around this one.

The Latest: NY lawmaker links mass murderers, Democrats

WASHINGTON — The Latest on President Donald Trump and guns (all times local):

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... 7b7408a27d

6:10 p.m.

Democrats are voicing outrage over comments that Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York made claiming that “so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats.”
Evan Lukaske, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, says the comments are “unhinged, shameful and disgusting.”
Tenney made the remarks on “Binghamton Now,” a talk radio show, as she discussed the Parkland, Florida, shooting. She added that “the media doesn’t talk about” her assessment.

Her office did not reply to a request seeking comment.
Lukaske says Tenney demonstrated “how completely unfit she is to serve in Congress.”
Tenney is serving her first term in Congress. Her race this year is expected to be competitive.

Okay, apparently committing a mass murder can convert you from being a Republican.

Most of the shooters are neither Republican or Democrat. They're typically apolitical areligious loner selfish males.
He, like every one of America’s other young mass shooters since Columbine, is male. And like many, he grew up without a father present, is not socialized, is a loner, is not religious, sees himself as a victim, is angry and depressed, wants to get even, is attracted to violence, and meticulously planned his final, redemptive, act of chaos.

Armed sheriff's deputy stayed outside Florida school while mass killing took place.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The armed school resource officer assigned to protect students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School took a defensive position outside the school and did not enter the building while the shooter was killing students and teachers inside with an AR-15 assault-style rifle, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Thursday.

Israel suspended School Resource Deputy Scot Peterson on Thursday after seeing a video from the Parkland, Fla. school that showed Peterson outside the school building where the shooter was inside and attacking.

“What I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of Building 12, take up a position, and never went in,” Israel said.

Shooting at US college
The Canadian Press - Feb 23, 2018 / 7:02 am | Story: 219606

Two people were injured after gunshots were fired early Friday on a college campus in Louisiana, school officials said.

Southeastern Louisiana University spokeswoman Erin Cowser said the incident happened at 3 a.m. Friday near an assembly hall where basketball games and other sports events are held.

Cowser said the shooting apparently stemmed from a fight or altercation involving students and people who aren't enrolled in the school.

She said the incident hasn't forced any closures or cancellations on Friday, a day when the school doesn't have a full schedule of classes.

"The incident is over and done," she said.

It was unclear whether the two people injured were students. They were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Cowser says no suspects are in custody. Police are investigating.

The school is located in Hammond, about 56 miles northwest of New Orleans

The real reason the U.S. won't get rid of it's guns is money; far too many people are making far too much money from the sale of guns. But maybe, just maybe, the tide is begining to turn (we can only hope):

with the nation's emotions raw over the killings in Florida last week, evidence is mounting that investors may be rethinking their long, fraught relationship with the firearms industry.

On Thursday, the day the head of the National Rifle Association issued a searing rebuttal to calls for stricter gun control, the nation's largest privately owned bank announced it would stop issuing NRA-sponsored credit cards.

Then, the investment giant BlackRock Inc. said it was exploring ways to cull gun companies from the portfolios of clients who no longer wish to invest in them. In Florida, site of the latest tragedy, teachers expressed frustration that their retirement funds own gun stocks, following revelations that holdings included the maker of the assault rifle used to kill 17 students and educators at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Activists have made similar appeals for years, only to see all the moments pass. Taken together, the recent developments suggest that, at least for the moment, the financial community senses the rising public pressure -- and is positioning itself accordingly.

"Now is the time for the financial services industry to step off the sidelines and take a stand," said Jonas Kron, director of shareholder advocacy at Trillium Asset Management, which focuses on sustainable investments.

The question is whether other investors, both big and small, are willing to exit investments that have plunged in value over the past year. Gun sales -- and gun stocks -- have tumbled since Donald Trump rose to the presidency. The thinking was that his administration, unlike the previous one, would be unlikely to push for stricter gun controls given its support from the NRA.

A quiet backlash has been building for years. Some major endowments, such as the $10-billion University of California fund, sold guns stocks after the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut, which prompted calls for more gun control.

"We continue to monitor this issues and take it very seriously," said Dianne Klein, a spokesperson the university system. Others are, too. On Thursday, the First National Bank of Omaha said it wouldn't renew its contract with the NRA for a branded credit card, because of "customer feedback."

It isn't clear how many of the NRA's nearly five million members hold the credit card. Representatives of the NRA didn't immediately return request for comment. The Second Amendment-rights organization continues to offer a prepaid card, issued by Republic Bank & Trust Co. The bank didn't reply to request for comment on the matter.

An increasing number of institutions, be they pension funds or municipalities, are demanding that their portfolios exclude companies that make guns and other weapons. Many of the funds, such as the giant CalSTRS, represent one of the groups most affected by school shootings: teachers.

More than $845-billion of U.S. institutional assets restricted investments were in weapons as of the start of 2016, according to data from US SIF, the Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment. That number soared more than 1,000 per cent following the Sandy Hook school shooting in December 2012, from $74-billion at the start of 2012.

Rommel Dioonisio, managing director of research at Aegis Capital Corp., said that given the outcry over the latest shooting, "it would certainly not surprise me to see other state funds divest their investment holdings in the industry." Still, that might not depress gun stocks given other investors will probably still be willing to buy them.

For the moment, holders are not just dumping shares of gun makers. Some are trying to exert pressure from within: Shareholders have filed at least three proposals at sellers or makers of guns in the current proxy season. The proposals ask American Outdoor Brands Corp., maker of Smith & Wesson; Dick's Sporting Goods Inc.; and Sturm Ruger & Co. to report on steps they're taking to improve gun safety and to mitigate the harm associated with gun products.

The proposals were filed by religious groups affiliated with the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, whose members includes 300 institutional investors that manage $400-billion in assets.

Some institutions, such as BlackRock which manages $6.3-trillion, are privately contacting gun companies to make their case.

"Given our inability to sell shares of a company in an index, even if we disagree with management, we focus on engaging with the company and understanding how they are responding to society's expectations of them," said BlackRock spokesman Ed Sweeney. "We will be engaging with weapons manufacturers and distributors to understand their response to recent events."

He added that BlackRock works with clients who want to exclude weapons makers from their portfolios. BlackRock manages more than $200-billion of assets that are screened for weapons ownership and other value-based issues.

Larry Fink, BlackRock's CEO, wrote to portfolio companies last year, warning that in addition to making money, they must also be aware of the impact on society.

Pension funds managed for public school teachers in at least a dozen U.S. states, including New York and California, own stocks issued by the makers of firearms or ammunition.

As teachers returned Friday to a high school where a shooter killed 17 people, Florida's governor proposed banning the sale of firearms to anyone younger than 21.

Gov. Rick Scott announced the proposal as part of a three-point plan to prevent gun violence.

He also called for a trained law enforcement officer in every school in Florida by the time the 2018 school year begins. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland had one armed resource officer, who never entered the school during the Feb. 14 shooting.

That failure, plus reports of a delay in security camera footage scanned by responding police and several records indicating the 19-year-old suspect displayed behavioural troubles for years added to what the Florida House speaker described as an "abject breakdown at all levels."

The problem is that guns kill people, but guns also save peoples lives.

Disarming all human beings of guns leaves what to defend ourselves with?

the police, the military and criminals will all still remain with guns - and the corruption resulting from the power they have been given, meanwhile we will be stripped - of all power, all weapons, all protection.

I do not see disarming human beings as the right thing to do, it renders them defenseless.

These school shootings are hoaxes, because the powers that be want us without the ability to protect ourselves and our families.

I will never change my point of view on the school shootings. All hoaxes meant to control the narrative to implement the agenda and the society they deem controllable.

They are causing quite a stir here locally as well....shutting down entire neighbourhoods for the likes of 1 man inside his own home with a firearm. its BS and its called social engineering.

Tell me why 20 years ago if the RCMP got wind of a person with a gun inside their own home there was not a neighbourhood lock down? what is the reason we are doing this now, locking down neighbourhoods for one person with a weapon?

Its an agenda - watch.
