Is it possible that I just found common ground between Cactusflower and GB?

So this is what it feels like to be Edith. :130:

You can say that again.

And who's Edith?

He is trying to find peace between Archie (me) and Meathead (you). Since you use a lot of British colloquialisms I assume you are one of those leftist escapees from the UK, so you probably don't know All in the Family.

Those were the days!!!

^^Makes sense. Archie is the quintessential bigot, and Michael is an intelligent university student.

While Archie is a character that would never be allowed on TV today, and for good reason, what's hilarious is that by today's standards, Meathead would be considered "right wing" by the SJW's and enviro-lunatics. He probably would support Chinese ownership of some Canadian entities, provided proper over-sight was put in place, which would be way too non-binary for the leftist People of today.

I don't think Pointy was calling me a bigot, as I do think he's better than that, and I would be shocked if he considered you intelligent. But it was a funny comment on some levels, I will give him that.

Foreign state-owned enterprises should not be taking over Canadian companies, period. And if I'm allowed, I'd like to rephrase my All In The Family comment: 'Archie is an uneducated bigot, and Mchael is an educated university student'.

Anbang Insurance Group owns the retirement homes, not any Canadian company. The Chinese government did not take control of any Canadian company.[/quote]

Anbang bought Retirement Concepts, a Canadian company which owns the Seniors homes. The Communist Chinese Government have control or influence in virtually all Chinese companies that operate overseas. They even have influence in Canadians companies sold to China, inserting Directors on the Boards and in many cases replacing Management staff with their own. Tis happened with Nexen when bought by CNOCC. They even brought in "TFW" - "temporary foreign workers" to Ft. McMurray, displacing Canadians.

The Edith thing is an inside joke with a few other posters. Has more to do with how conservatives and progressives see things so differently that we need more Ediths in the world because she represented the negotiater in that family who could always find middle ground.

It's actually not the best metaphor in regard to China because Archie would have been the most weary of China's agenda and Meathead would have called that thinking bigoted. In some ways it does demonstrate how Trump has flipped conservatives on this subject, especially in respect to Russia's disinformation campaign and allegations of collusion where we see conservatives labelling it a witch hunt despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

Btw: I wouldn't label GB a bigot nor would I label cactusflower unintelligent. You both simply represent opposite ends of the spectrum which was why I made a big deal that both of you can agree that when it comes to foreign investment, Canada's relationship with China is not reciprocal.

Why not?

Because pushing back is the only leverage we have to negotiate a more reciprocal investment environment.

This I can agree with. It's the completely binary "we can't ever allow it to happen ever" fear-mongering garbage that I have a problem with.

You should look into some back-pedaling of your own as your absolute stances on every issue just make you look weak-minded, racist, and hyper-fanatical.
