Yes that was quite interesting. Quite a 180 degree turn for the CBC. If that had been Harper instead of Trudeau the CBC reporter would have gone in the opposite direction, causing damage instead of operating in damage control mode.

Much as I disliked Harper (and was glad to see him gone) I have to agree with you GB. The CBC's reporting of the Trudeau Liberals has been much more favorable that it ever was of the Cons (and I'm a CBC supporter most of the time).

Do you really think Trudeau was sitting there figuring out the guest list himself. Come on people put the blame where it deserves. Obviously the PM had nothing to do with it. Use your heads a bit

I suppose he had nothing to do with his wife posing for a pic with Atwal in Mumbai either. Come on, use that 'common sense' a bit.

As people said above, Trudeau himself didn't invite this guy. The MP who did has now resigned.

And Gone_Fishin, Trudeau didn't "hang" with this convicted felon so much as accidently attend a stupid dinner with him.

Trust fund kids don't take responsibility ever, but they sure will make sure someone takes the blame for them....you know, cuz if you do he'll still be your "secret best friend"

But at least this open and honest white guy found a brown guy to take the heat for him. What an equality based rich boy.

and yet

So he will blame someone in his party, AND India. Must not be a mirror in the entire PM house.

Throwing the MP from BC "under the bus" just makes Trudeau look worse IMO. Because it's impossible for me to believe that somebody would be invited to an official function like that just on one MP's say so.

Surely guest lists are vetted by somebody in the PMO's office to make sure "unsuitable" people are not on it. And where are the PM's security staff on this one? How come they didn't "red flag" someone who has been convicted of attempted murder?

All the "checks and balances" don't appear to have been applied in this particular instance, which suggests to me that somebody very high up in the Trudeau Government authorized this man's presence.

But he didn't resign, did he? He's still collecting his fat MP cheque. All he did was resign as head of some Liberal committee, the "Pacific Caucus", whatever the hell that is. He should be walking the plank completely, and there should be a by-election in his riding.

Sure he did just not really. The optics and lines that CBC can use to pretend that there was some repercussions for this massive screw up, but this is the Trudeau Liberals.....you didn't expect someone to actually take responsibility for the shady and crooked things did you?

Justin Trudeau in the real world
Paul Wells: The prime minister’s so-called ‘state visit’ trip to India was so tone-deaf, hopeless and unserious he might as well never have gone

When travelling abroad, it is handy to bear in mind that the people you will meet are real people with real lives.
Justin Trudeau likes to preface his answer to any question about any secession movement anywhere with, “Well, as a Quebecer…” He needs to stop saying that. When he says that, he seems to believe that simply residing on Ave. des Pins in Montreal confers expertise on the intricacies of the customary international law of secession.

In most of the world, secession is not a once-in-a-generation five-week downer that causes awkward moments around the dinner table. In India, the 1947 partition that led to the creation of Pakistan created a river of blood, hundreds of thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of rapes, millions internally displaced, betrayal, upheaval and grief. In much of India it’s hard to walk into any room without meeting people whose family stories prominently feature harrowing tales of this massive human tragedy.

Visitors aren’t expected to sit for an essay exam on the ramifications of all this for the modern-day Sikh independence movement. Maybe a highly-hypothetical secession of the Sikh homeland would go more smoothly! But this is the emotional landscape within which such questions are considered, in a real place with real people.

So maybe if you visit India, don’t spend the week parading across the landscape dressed like the Griswolds, to be met at a couple of stops by an easily-identifiable convicted violent extremist who has a well-documented recent history of popping up in British Columbia at Liberal events and on Liberal organizational charts. Especially if the fellow in question specialized in violence related to the very sectarian disputes Trudeau is suspected of taking too lightly.

As an enterprise in emotional reconciliation with an Indian government that has long suspected Canadian politicians of preferring photo ops and election-campaign ground game to serious reflection on the complexities and challenges of Indian multiculturalism, this trip is already shot. There is no reason to fear a prolonged chill in Canada-India relations; not everyone carries a grudge forever, and it’s not as though Canada and India haven’t hit speed bumps before. But this prime minister, Justin Trudeau, might as well never have gone to India, for all the good he has accomplished.

But, we’ll hear, there was $1 billion in trade agreements! Sure. And in 2003, Jean Chrétien left India boasting of $3.4 billion in deals, in 2003 dollars. As a trade mission, this one has been curiously perfunctory. Trudeau spent a half-day meeting CEOs in plush chairs tilted at 45 degrees to accommodate news photographers, something he enjoys doing because he hopes it’ll keep them thinking about Canada as an investment destination. But he visited none of those CEOs’ factories or office suites, scoped out no new site where Canadian developers or investors might make a difference in a country where hundreds of millions still live in poverty. If you’re all business, act like it.

Trudeau was elected in 2015 amid constant accusations that he was not serious or prepared. He subverted those claims by having superior campaign organization, a different and defensible argument about the macro-economic moment, and many months of personal rehearsal. “Hope and Hard Work” was a mantra the Liberals took more seriously than you’d have thought the slogan could bear. It damages this prime minister personally, and Canada strategically, when he keeps shortening it to “Hope” every time he packs his bags.

Trudeau was elected because he had a famous name, and was good looking. NOT because he was experienced, or had the credentials to be catapulted into the role of PM the way he was.

It also helped that Harper was so disliked (and even hated by some), and that many of those who were tired of his leadership were folks who'd previously voted for him (you can include me in those ranks, but my vote swung to Mulcair, not Trudeau).

Finally, Trudeau's promise to legalize marijuana brought a lot of first time voters out to support a cause they'd been advocating for years.

But in the next election, the pendulum just might swing the other way, for the following reasons:

1. Trudeau's own actions have demonstrated how his lack of experience can hurt rather than help our relations with foreign governments.

2. Many "lefties" who abandoned the NDP in order to vote for him now feel betrayed by his apparent "flip flops" on certain issues.

3. Many "one issue" voters who voted for the first time in the last election in order to support marijuana legalization, may well just fade back into the woodwork once that goal is achieved

4. Harper is no longer the Conservative Leader.

IMO the only thing that might hold the Cons back from a win next time is the perception that Scheer is just like Harper in his views (and his close friendship with Poilievre only adds to that perception). But if Scheer can convince the electorate that he isn't just "another Harper" in disguise, I think the Cons have a good shot at beating the Liberals.

Okay fine, he probably didn't send the invitations but you'd think that if the PM is having guests he would at least be allowed, at some point, to review the guest list. As for the 'accidental' elbow rubbing at dinner, why on earth would his bride be photographed with Atwal and why are there older pics circulating the internet of the two of them? You can cut them some slack if you like, but I am still skeptical. Call me a 'little right winger' if you must.

Boy blunder just embarrassing in his responses in QP. Why did he even bother showing up? Just go home and practice your dance moves JT.
