So West Kelowna municipal operations has new code 778
This to sounds weird that within area code 250 there would be a different area code (778)? But only for the municipal operations of West Kelowna. Whatever.

You can get a cell phone with 778 area code anytime.

If so why only municipal hall.

The 778 area code was implemented in BC in July 2007 as numbers in the 250 area code were forecast to run out by 2009. Good move for West Kelowna to get the 778 code as it allows them to have their office phone/fax numbers in sequence.
OTTAWA-GATINEAU — The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced in June that effective September 12, 2008, 10-digit local dialing will be required for all local calls in British Columbia.
To prevent the exhaustion of telephone numbers in the area code 250 region, 10-digit dialing began on June 23, 2008. The change to 10-digit dialing has been gradually introduced and will become mandatory by September 12, 2008.
In addition, effective July 4, 2007, the use of area code 778 was expanded to provide numbers in the region served by area code 250. This means that customers seeking new numbers in the current 250 area code regions are given a number starting with area code 778.
These measures are being implemented in response to the Canadian Numbering Administrator's forecast that the area code 250 region will run out of telephone numbers by January 2009.

If they knew that 250 numbers were going to run out so soon, they should have started putting cell phone numbers in their own area code right from the get-go. That way, land-line numbers - the usage of which are in decline - could be indefinitely handled by the 250 area code. We wouldn’t have all of this confusion - if it is in the 250 district, it would be a landline, anything else would be a mobile device. Simple, easy to remember and very stratified.

I just found it to a little weird thats all, there is no defined area for 778 it's within both 604 & 250. I grew up in B.C all of the province was 604 than just the lower mainland & rest became 250 now 778 is in both. (so what becomes long distant call, and what is not?)
Just a add-on. It not as if Telus has not made mistakes in the past. But would be funny if West Kelowna residents would be charge long distant when phoning their own city hall. :dyinglaughing:

So your Mayors # is not (778) 797-2210 or (778) 797-2253. Wow I thought you elect your own mayor.
If you elect a mayor than you have a City Hall/same as Municipal Hall.

No it not complicated that is your temporary City Hall/same as Municipal Hall. The phone# is a 778 area code your home maybe 250. What I was saying is it would be very funny if telus F-up and charges you long distant rate for calling your own Mayor. Knowing that this new area code is within both 250 & 604 areas. Do you get it now.
