I gave you silence for a month and that wasn't a good enough answer for you? You just this doggie spoiler waltz in here and take all the credit? For shame. Let's go have coffee sometime and settle this like real men, mano a mano.

Sobrohusfat and Babba_not_Gump are living in Valemount. Sobrohusfat phones up Babba this morning and says, "hey's it's -36 right now in Valemount, brrrr!"

Babba replies, "YOU LYING SACK OF SHIIITE! IT IS ONLY -29!"

But neither of them is lying.

How can this be?

...

Because I was driving to work & the truck display said -36°

... while that lazy @-ss Babba was still at home - cozy by the fireplace with a Baileys coffee - looking at the dubious temp of -29° displayed on his phone. (?)

How did I get drawn into this? :200:

I may be lazy, but I don't have a fireplace, well, an electric but it's busted, and I don't drink Baileys but I do drink Kaluha.
And if this had been last week the temp would have been +29.

This is all so puzzling.

Both are at their homes and both have accurate thermometers.

One is in Fahrenheit, the other in Celsius.
Or one of them is placed in direct sunlight.

I was thinking one thermometer is rectal, stuck in a recently deceased body that hasn't fully frozen.

Nope and nope. Both accurately record the outside air temperature in the shade in degrees Celsius.

Valemount?
I was thinking Vanderhoof which is flat.
One of them lives at a ski resort.

Sobrohusfat is out at the airport and Babba lives downtown. Downtown is higher elevation than the airport. But by less than 100 m.

But you are sort of in the right answer. The airport gets huge inversions and can be 5 or 10° colder than the surrounding area. The downtown and especially south of town is sloped down towards Kinbasket Lake so cold air sinks down in the lake. Plus it is much more humid toward the lake given the rainforest down there, and humid air is a lot warmer at night. It is also more humid going towards Prince George because of the rainforest that comes around McBride.

So right around Valemount is like a little hole in the rainforest where it's quite dry. This leads to very cold nights around the airport.

This is what the temperatures look like yesterday morning...

One of them needs new eyeglasses.
One used the windchill factor.
