I'm old enough to recall how dentists kept kids from squirming.
They would smack us.

I'm so old I know what "Freeze the balls off a brass monkey" really means.
It's so cold I'm almost hoping for a heated argument with my Wife!

When I first got my driver's license, gas was 50 cents per GALLON...yes, it was still gallons.

Re: How old are you?
Today, when someone wants to obtain a class 6 driver's license (motorcycle), they start with a knowledge test, then a skills test (drive around cones in a parking lot), eventually a road test where the applicant is given a radio receiver and two ICBC road test examiners (one driving one making notes) follow the applicant giving instruction on where to turn and what to do over the radio.
My first driver's license was a class 6. Started with a knowledge test (you'd have to be brain dead not to pass) then you could ride any motorcycle you wanted as long as you didn't have a passenger. No restrictions on the size of bike or highway or times of the day, just no passenger.
The full class 6 test amounted to the examiner standing on the back porch of the Motor Vehicle Branch office (in East Vancouver) and watching the applicant ride around the block. I'm sure most of the time the examiner couldn't see the applicant at all. That was the test. I guess as long as you made it back to the office in one piece you got the class 6 DL.
I first obtained my DL, in 1965. As I said it was only a class 6. A few years later I got my class 5 added. I remember on renewing my DL in 1970 ? The class 6 was missing from the license. I called the MVB and was told that the MVB just arbitrarily cancelled all class 6 qualifications on DLs as they were renewed. It was because before I obtained my class 6 all a class 5 holder had to do was tell the MVB that they also road a motorcycle and it was just added to the license without a test. So there were lots of class 6 DLs out that really weren't qualified. They then would re-issue the class 6 to those that complained.
I guess they checked and saw that, yes, I had taken a class 6 test (for what it was worth) and subsequently the 6 was added back on my DL.

To give a clue to my age, I was born under the Canadian flag that our current government has just declared to be a hate symbol.
, and the Conservative PM at the time of my birth gave First Nations peoples the right to vote.

My father fought under the Red Ensign, though at the time it was not Canada's official flag.
My father-in-law also fought under the Red Ensign but it was Canada’s flag at the time.
My mother's brother died under this flag when his ship, HMCS Ottawa was torpedoed. I recall my father and father-in-law were both pretty upset when Canada's flag was changed. So many of their friends died for the Red Ensign.
