Met Sam Elliot but was Jerry O'Connell's stunt double when he climbed a telegraph pole. perhaps 30 seconds...
Interesting few days.
Money then was a bit better than the $19.00 hour though. Stunt was worth $600 and a buyout ( no residuals) was another $600
Ah, you worked for Danny Virtue - respect. :smt045

"30 seconds, interesting few days", yep that verifies it... you worked for Danny.

Good thing too, because the PM was an :cuss: and would have screwed you out of the buyout - unless of course you're family. Last time I saw George he was driving around envelopes in a Dodge mini van. He must have been spitting on his own reflection in the mirror when he got up for work in the morning.

About those buyouts.

I used to meet with the former LA Teamsters local 399 President every now and then, and one night over dinner down in LA we got talking about the shows I had worked on. Not many at that time, but some big ones. He asked about my pension. :135: Pension, what pension? Then he explained how the LA and New York pensions worked and how the residuals flowed into the member plans based on the shows they had worked.

That was the day I realized Canadians were winning the race to the bottom and there wasn't a Canadian :cuss: worth kissing in the industry. My attitude became you either want the job done, or you want part of my wages - you can't have both, so make the call. Didn't really care much at the time, the industry was just a place to go earn some cash while my body was broken and on the mend, but I wouldn't mind seeing my pension topped up every time someone watched the X-files.

Matter of fact, I might even sit down and watch a couple episodes if that happened. [icon_lol2.gif]

(Long story short - all the iron broke down in the landing, I came off the hill to chase some chokers in the pile and the pile decided to leave the landing - put me behind a steering wheel for a while. Ouch, but WCB, heli indemnity, FD indemnity and Team wages, with the first aid top up. It was a bit of a hectic dance with physio and Doc's reports, but four months of quad dipping ... Booyah, baby got new shoes. Karma got me for it though. First shift back, six steps off a pad on the top of King Island and I turned my ankle on the good leg, - no choice but to work through it. Thank god I was ripping pumpkins at the time.)

I have a good condition 090 for sale

Looked after Fred and Janet Frames dog for a while, Also Abel Fotheringham is a neighbour at the cottage on the Island. Great fellow.
Also I worked on the set for Clan of the Cave bear. Cool collection of really old helicopters ( piston -bangers) to ferry actors and staff to the filming site. Jackson Browne was Darryl Hanna's boyfriend at the time. Good parties.

lol, even the best 090 is sthil going to give you problems. Yeah, packed one of those around with a 72" bar and a 20 ton jack. No better feeling than that "pop" when the holding wood lets go... no wait, I'm definitely wrong about that... I must be getting old.

Waaay back, one April me and nine or so other guys on a forestry crew were flown into the Unuk River valley.
The Otter set down on a snow covered gravel bar, and deposited us there with plans to stay a couple of weeks at least.
The plane had trouble turning on the deep snow and when it did it revved up and took off down the gravel bar.

But, there was a rope tied to the tail wheel and suddenly that rope looped around my ankle and down the snow-covered gravel bar I went, snow blowing in my face and terrifying thoughts of who-knows-what in my mind.
I recall seeing my buddies staring at me in shock as I bounced along past them the snow. :200:
"Is the pilot going trolling for eagles?" said one of the guys later, laughing sadistically. :-X

Suddenly the plane stopped, seems he decide to take off in the other direction. The pilot got out, untied the rope, climbed back in and was gone.
"Hey, I need another pair of shorts!"

Years later I ran into that pilot again on our way to a logging site past Talka Lake. He remembered that flight, not me though, and laughed when I told him about trolling for eagles.

And that's all you're getting on me. Too many skeletons in the closet.

Oh, one other story, same trip. Did you know it's possible to climb a tree with snowshoes on? Yes it is, when a grizzly is heading towards you.

Play that out for a sec.
He wouldn't have felt you dragging on the rocks until it was off and in ground effect. Then there would be a odd feeling something was dragging thru the seat and controls. I'm assuming it was a short field with obstacles at the end so at least it would be a fairly steep climb out once you quit bouncing. You could safely cut yourself free after that with 100% confidence.

And that bird bait, is why you always want to watch those bridges burn in the rear view mirror as your driving away. :spitcoffee:

Okay, I promise, I'll never call you that again. [icon_lol2.gif]

No rocks, there was several feet of snow on the bar.
The tail of the plane had sunk into the snow as it warmed up so the pilot revved up the engine in order to raise the tail, then we were to pull on the rope, swinging the tail around in order to get pointed it the right direction.

Oh, okay, cut myself free. At a few hundred feet up, and then drop, try for a foot landing of course.
I did have a knife, and I still have it.

1. I grew up without electricity, running water,or a telephone. On a clear day the CB would reach the neighbors.
2. I love playing hockey so play a couple times a week. I switched to playing goalie after age 35.
3. I spend way too much time volunteering for organizations
4. I've had 6 speeding tickets in my life, and 4 were out of province for some reason.
5. I'm not gay.

yea but I bet you can tie a fly and cast with the best of them.

I keep threatening to take my wife out to the Chilcotin for a week-10 days or so in the camper and tow out boat, perhaps next year. Won't do the Chilco to Tsuniah lake goat track though. We have a 50hp on the back but also a 6hp for lakes with a HP limit. Wonder how the dogs will like trout fishing.

Puntzi was the cold spot in BC ( again) a few days ago.

Ha, there must be a backstory there
Totally lost re all the plane or helicopter stuff.
Sudsy, did you like the Navy? My Daddy was in the Navy, couldn't swim. Neither parent could so I was the one who had to learn to be able to save us if the little fishing boat went down when we rented one

Parts were fun and some were not but overall a great experience.

I think a few years in the military would benefit all young people but I doubt some of the wimps being raised today could handle it. Mommy wouldn't be there to kiss their Boo Boo's.
