My cat was an indoor cat and has gone missing because he got out of a door that wasn't closed properly. I'm not asking for your opinions on responsible pet stewardship, so please focus on the topic. If you want to discuss animals being let outside unsupervised please start your own threads.

My two cats have been indoor their whole lives and they are happy and content. Good quality food, regular treats, some fresh catnip toys, regular brushing, a clean litterbox, and lots of pets and snuggles is all they need. A catio or a cat tree/condo by a window is also a must.

All my cats except one were indoor cats - the exception hated being indoors with a passion so we built him a fancy-smancy insulated cat house in the backyard with a hinged, shingled roof - made cleaning easier - and separate rooms off a tunnel to keep the wind out. My Siamese stud was the only one who took to the harness and he would keep me company when I was hanging laundry or doing some gardening - was never outside by himself.

The two I have know are strictly indoors - windows are open all day when the weather co-operates so they get fresh air and can chatter to their heart's content at the birds flying by.

Mayhem on the left - Chaos on the right. Yes, they live up to their names.

We moved from the South Rutland area last year but know that over the last 4-5 years there were both poisonings (according to police and vet) and wild animals (mostly coyotes but a few bears as well).

There was a bear sighting on Neptune Road off Springfield Road about an hour ago as well...Was in my daughter's friend's backyard...

There is an incredibly simple solution to the missing cats problem, here it is.... keep your cats indoors.
Don't let them wandering around the neighbourhood, if you do then don't be surprised if they go missing i.e due to a wild animal having lunch or hit by an vehicle etc... etc
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

All right then, 'Survival of the Fittest'. whether predators, poison, cars, or whatever, Fluffy is gone.

And what useful point are you trying to add to the topic?

Seems to be self-explanatory - if there seems to be an awful lot of missing cats in the area, there are multiple reasons for their disappearance. Being hit by a car is in the top 5.
