Rerouting traffic while new Bridge at Sicamous is built
Residents along Hwy 97A from Sicamous to turn off onto Hwy 97B to Salmon Arm are in for very rude awakening.
Apparently during 2 year construction of new Bridge on Trans-Canada at Sicamous all traffic will be rerouted on 97A then 97B heading west or 97B & 97A heading East.
The highway along Mara lake is a twisty & whiny piece pavement.

Don't know if I've ever heard 97 around Mara Lake complain?
Sometimes the locals whine about the speeding rice rockets, but not usually.
Now my bike loves the curves & winding sections at speed.
Lol

Was I complaining, the traffic is going to become extremely heavy once construction on bridge begins.Bigbacardi wrote: ↑Oct 16th, 2024, 9:05 am Don't know if I've ever heard 97 around Mara Lake complain?

As a kid the one thing I remember about Mara lake stretch was the numerous white crosses.

Also, to add. The detour along 97a to b will only be a recommendation, not a requirement. I believe the bridge will maintain 1 lane partially open most of the time. It will also take most of a year of the 2 scheduled to prepare the area around bridge. So, yes there will be more traffic on 97a due to thus. I think that is why Hwy 97a is currently getting resurfaced along Mara lake.

Looking at the new bridge I don’t think they will be keeping any lanes open.Bigbacardi wrote: ↑Oct 17th, 2024, 8:09 am Also, to add. You are looking at a concept, not the actual bridge. Pretty obvious cause the new bridge isn't built yet.
Where did you get the info from that the bridge will not stay partially open during construction?
Were you around for the Bennett bridge in kelowna?
The floating bridge was still used during construction of new bridge. & after construction was over, it looked like the floating fridge never existed.
Keeping the existing infrastructure for as long as possible during construction is one of the reasons the price tag is so high.
But, I have no inside info, so I could be mistaken.

How do they keep a lane open if it’s going from 2 lane bridge to a 4 lane bridge.Bigbacardi wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2024, 8:42 am You are looking at a concept, not the actual bridge. Pretty obvious cause the new bridge isn't built yet.

btw at this location they are not building the new bridge from scratch next to the old one, because they are going to use the current embedded supports.
So old bridge deck is removed and new one is placed on current anchor supports embedded into ground and water channel.
So when this construction begins on the bridge going on Hwy 1 between Sicamous and Salmon Arm will be shutdown until the project is complete.

Just reading province plans for the bridge. Everything needed can be found within links provided, plus the links within the links I provided.Bigbacardi wrote: ↑Oct 19th, 2024, 11:03 am And you know this how?

Oh yes, also from family living in the area.

Re: Rerouting traffic while new Bridge at Sicamous is built
Family living in area? They are bridge builders?
I was looking on those links, couldn't find anything that says bridge will be closed during construction.
As far as going from a 2 lane to a 4 lane, seems fairly standard. Build 1/2 bridge at a time.
As far as reusing those existing pillars....they are crumbling......
As far as the link you provided.
This is what I found....
Traffic access through the site will be affected during construction. Advance notice of any traffic disruptions, including possible periods of single-lane-alternating traffic and short, intermittent full closures, will be provided. Drivers are reminded to drive for the conditions, use caution and expect delays. Up-to-date traffic notifications will be posted to DriveBC: https://www.drivebc.ca/
Pretty clear to me.....

Current embedded supports.
Boy, would that suck if they re-used these...

Most definitely, shutting the highway down at some point during this project, they are putting a underpass under the highway, pretty hard to keep it open during that.
