Vernon Mayor in Court
I find it difficult to believe that Revenue Canada would be taking someone to court because of some missing paperwork without having sent written requests for the paperwork. Isn't court what happens when one doesn't respond appropriately to their requests?

Akbal Mund wants to assure the people of Vernon he is not withholding taxes or responsible for any illegal tax maneuvers.
The Vernon mayor said he did receive a summons for court from the Canada Revenue Agency and his lawyer appeared for him Thursday morning to respond to the dual charges of failing to comply with the income tax act.
The issue, Mund said, is some paperwork that was not filed in relation to his business holdings.
“It has not got anything to do with not paying taxes,” Mund said. “I have some paperwork that needs to be filed. My accountants will have that done within the next few weeks. It's got nothing to do with personal taxes. It's from 2012 and 2013 Mund Holdings.”
Mund said he wants to make sure everything is “on the up and up” and admits paperwork may have been missed, but it is a situation he will have quickly remedied.
Mund is schedule to appear in court again on Nov. 19, but he's confident the matter will be settled well in advance.
“Once they (CRA) get the information, I'm sure they will be satisfied and everything will be fine,” he said.

It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

Who knows the truth, here ? We know his side of the story, but not the CRA's side.
If you make the dough, then file your income taxes and do what the law says. End of story.

He's revealed himself to be a leftist. Does he support the Liberals or the NDP? It doesn't really matter which one, he's on the wrong side. And as a mayor he has to be sent a message and brought to heel. If only he'd take out that Conservative party membership, all this wouldn't have happened.

he is one of the most pro business mayors Vernon has seen in years. How do you even know who he supports?

Obviously Bob vernon was dripping with sarcasm. You really have to screw up to get this far because the problems around making intentional "errors" in your favour on your taxes can be fixed by simply paying what you owe plus the relatively small fine.

Submitting the proper paperwork should be pretty easy. You need to have it when you file your taxes. (Unless of course you were pulling numbers out of somewhere else!)
