Re: Homeless Camp
This is not how treating humans should be, currently it's like leaving food out to strays - imo IF You can't fix it, enforce the LAWS cause jail is better.
So, for the ones who proclaim to have all the knowledge, that can only criticize other points of view.
What do you suggest?

3) this one can take years. Figuring out the combination of meds that works to control the illness.
Many give up (due to being overwhelmed & stressed out) & just disappear onto the street, especially those without a very good support system i.e family and/or friends.
All true for people with mental health issues. To say all drug addicts suffer from mental health issues is hog wash. Or people with mental health issues have addiction problems is insulting.

Not all people with mental illness go the route of self medicating, those that do it never helps.... does more harm then any good.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Re: Homeless Camp
They shouldn't stay where they are - they are impeding people's rights to enjoy their own homes.

Vernon city council will be discussing ongoing issues with homeless residents at its meeting Tuesday.
Protective Services Manager Geoff Gaucher says in a report to council, there are two main overnight shelter sites including Linear Park on 25th Avenue.
Gaucher says four groups of about 10 people have been staying there, with numbers increasing during the day as others come to visit.
He says there’s been recent incidents involving open drug use and hostile behaviour toward bylaw officers.
“RCMP have been contacted and administration is setting up a plan to patrol in teams with the RCMP to ensure the safety of City staff during darkness.
Gaucher says city council could decide to limit access to Linear Park but that would likely shift people into other residential and commercial areas.
“Displacement of ‘permanent’ camps at Polson Park and allowance for temporary shelter has moved individuals into other areas of the community, and created issues both within the downtown core, and on private property,” write Gaucher. “If Polson Park is the more optimal location, then some consideration for stage would need to be established.”
The other main shelter site is at the south end of Polson Park below the hospital where 8 people have been staying.
Gaucher says a few tents have also popped up in Alexis Park, and there is a small group of people on property behind London Drugs which on Ministry of Transportation/RDNO land.

Re: Homeless Camp
Vernon bylaw officers are dealing with increasing hostility from residents living in a homeless camp at the linear park along 25th Avenue.
In a report that will be presented to council Tuesday, Geoff Gaucher, manager of protective services, said bylaw staff are encountering hostile residents and open drug use.

Re: Homeless Camp
There should be a place for the homeless to camp. Somewhere out of sight so that we don't have to be reminded of them. Someplace like the back corner of Polson Park.

Well, the police attendance doesn't seem to be solving much.

Re: Homeless Camp
How can we explain to the people that live in that area and use the bike lanes and do business there that there's no money for the homeless and the programs to treat the drug issues but we do have money for programs bringing people into Canada?
This is not me bashing immigration and refugee claims, because we need people coming here, its just a point that why do we focus so much on people coming to Canada and forget the people that are born here?
