What to do with the Kin Race track

What to do with the Kin Race track

Postby TYCORPPREZ » May 17th, 2018, 8:02 pm

How about a site for the homeless.
Staging ground for low/no income facility.
Tent city in the middle of the track.

Ban city park camping and create that space for them.
Just a thought.

Not bad but there's an elementary school across the street. Give them the civic arena instead.

Put up a Costco.

Perfect location, easily accessible to Vernonites and those coming from the North of the Valley.

When the land was bequeathed it was to be used as a racetrack. But since horseracing is dead, or at least near death, the land should be used for recreational purposes. It's bad enough that the wishes of the original landowner can't be honored, but putting a Costco on that land would be tantamount to peeing on his grave. None of it should be used for housing or commercial purposes. Only parks and rec.

We need a recreation centre, because Vernon's is extremely outdated. And please, no more soccer fields, hockey rinks or baseball diamonds!!

Obviously Costco doesn't believe the population base is there to support another Costco or they would have done it already. Lots of land on Anderson way to do it already.
I agree recreation, it makes sense there, the lighted track should have been built there but they were in court at the time.
There was already a plan that was drawn up for the area. Sorry it did include some baseball diamonds:) I can't seem to find the drawing online.

Across from the airport? Out in the Landing? Near Marshall Fields? I can't believe that Costco would build out in the Landing, far from the highway that would bring in people from out of town. There's the land in the north end of the city that would be better for getting their trucks in and out of town and for the public to drive in from the north. But out by the airport?

They are going to relocate the Kelowna one to out near the Kelowna airport. Apparently the Kelowna Costco is one of the smallest and on the list for a upgrade that can only be done by moving it. The guy who told me this was trying to sell me a membership so take that with a grain of salt.

The Costco across from Kelowna airport has been an urban legend rumor for years. It makes sense with a gas station but I'll believe it when I see it.

I knew it was the Kelowna airport that they were talking about. But posting in the Vernon topics and referring to "the airport" left me the opening to be obtuse.

I sure hope they expand on what they started and develop a complete rec centre. Add another rink, indoor soccer field, gym, and swimming pool with a whole lot more parking. I’m even for more soccer fields if they decommissioned others in town to make room for more multi family housing projects in established communities.
