RCMP went silent about massive pot bust over concern for marijuana producer’s stock price, documents reveal

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/rc ... nts-reveal

In the spring of 2014, RCMP officers in Kelowna, B.C. prepared a press release about a big drug bust at the local airport. It described how investigators had intercepted two shipments of marijuana of “unfathomable quantity” that were bound for a couple of licensed cannabis producers in Ontario. The press release, however, was never sent.

Days went by with a virtual information blackout over what the Mounties had seized and why, even after one of the companies — Tweed Marijuana Inc., now Canopy Growth Corp. — decided to release its own public statement, containing what some RCMP members perceived to be “brutally misleading” information about the seizure.

More than 900 pages of internal records obtained by the National Post reveal for the first time the lengthy deliberations that took place among RCMP members in B.C. and at RCMP headquarters in Ottawa over what, if anything, to tell the public about the March 31, 2014, seizures at Kelowna International Airport.

Among the “strategic considerations” outlined in emails was a concern that the release of information might affect the stock price of Tweed, which had gone public on the Toronto Stock Exchange that week — the first pot producer in the country to do so

Really interesting story considering how another cannabis company (Canntrust) was caught operating illegal grow rooms, got caught and that news sent the stock price down about 40% overall.

Tweed is Canada's biggest cannabis company and the owners were all former Liberal-insiders and government officials. When the news was going to break that Tweed was buying 1000's of pounds of weed off the street to meet their targets, the Government told the RCMP to kill the story to protect the stock price.

That's cultivating insider trading practices - killing a news story/police investigation.

Cronyism.

Can you imagine investing in an industry that is building these massive greenhouses that cover acres without knowing what the market might be? I said all along that this would happen. These greenhouses will be growing vegetables.

Seriously, with legalization any fool can grow a plant or two either hidden in the back yard or as a potted plant in the corner. And you can harvest all the weed you want from a couple of plants. You don't need these big corporate greenhouse operators. They've way overbuilt. Last year the state of Oregon told growers to stop growing because the state's warehouses had enough weed stockpiled for 6 or 7 years.

Another suggestion: learn to cook with weed. Infusing it into butter is simple and you can make a batch and freeze it to be used later for cakes or cookies. And by not smoking, you don't smell bad. Relax.

yes and u can grow your own tomatoes and peas and cucumbers etc but people just don't have the space the time or the want
and would sooner buy it Canadas dope growers are in trouble because they went too big too fast and there is just not that kind of market in Canada how company's like ACB and weed were that far off the mark is amazing to me ; The fact the police have virtually eliminated the programs that seek and destroy illegal grow ops has been one of the main failures of the legalization
added to government greed (taxes) its just turning out to be a bad situation
