Herons
Poor young herons dropping from the tree tops , walking around in a daze til they die three or four days later. Is there no society that will care for them till they can fly? This is terrible.

As soon as word spread, residents brought and/or are bringing sprinklers, kiddie pools, buckets and what have you to help the birds keep cool.

Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Yes, it was great to see. I helped when I could, one young fella was rounding them up with a bin with water in it. Working like a pro. He did a great job.
The neighbourhood was fantastic!

Happy to hear this good news
I feel sad for our wildlife as they must be suffering in this heat, lack of rain water.
Come autumn there won’t be much for wild berries for bears and birds.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: Herons
I've seen a doe and 2 fawns really close to my house...so put out my grandson's plastic sled in a corner and filled with water.
Do what you can, folks, fresh cold water into the birdbaths 2x a day, put a full bucket of water in a far corner of yard, and a low bowl in the shade, all wildlife needs help.
Fresh cold water...The birdbath edges looked like a meeting had been called: waxwings, robins, finches, chickadees, sparrows, and a couple more I can't ID.
And whoever said that hummingbird food would rot in this hot weather is misinformed.
My hummingbird feeder is filled fresh every two days, dump the old stuff down the toilet (don't dump in yard because ants will really love that!). Keep extra hummingbird food in fridge. Easy to make more.
Plus hummingbirds L O V E trumpet vine flowers.
My vine's trumpets are opening now and hummingbirds almost disappear right into the trumpets, so cute.
Keep at it folks, we can help them get through this.
They'll repay your kindness by eating all the bugs off your trees...leafrollers, aphids, etc.
