If you expect to have everything in life to go your way, you'll be highly disappointed.

I still would. They are unappealing to me, I can voice that opinion. If most people find them unappealing, why pay to have them put up?
Should most the community supports them, put them up. It's not hard.

I think they are creepy, as well, and hope they don't go ahead with it. It might be slightly more acceptable if they were showcasing local talent, as opposed to just giving out a job to someone from another province, with no connection to the area.

one can only hope thats what happens those things are gross and downgrading areas where paintedSparki55 wrote: ↑Jun 5th, 2022, 10:52 amPoint was people have a preference, as pointed out by you above some things are acceptable and others aren't. These murals have gained so much negative attention my guess is a vote by the citizens of Vernon would see them cancelled.bob vernon wrote: ↑Jun 4th, 2022, 6:23 pm No graffiti, but the question at hand is about murals. I like Mayor Vic and there is no need to see his face all over town. The question at hand is about murals. 200 massive Telus screens? No thanks. Aren't we talking about murals here?

Look, the town is ugly and the people are ugly so the murals should be ugly, too.

Is the Calgary artist responsible for the project and subject matter or merely the painter?
The murals would be done by Calgary artist Katie Green and are part of a storytelling process on mental health.
Participants were photographed wearing their hand-made masks in a setting of their choosing, and the photographs, which will be shown at the Vernon Public Art Gallery, are the basis for the murals.
Gallery executive director Dauna Kennedy Grant says local participants took part in the project, along with a local photographer and videographer. A mini-documentary on it is also planned.
"Thank you all for your discussion for and against. Discussion is positive and what we hoped would come from this project, which deals with mental health and its stigmas," Kennedy said in a post shared on the Vernon & Area Community Forum.

Commissioning murals for a town is supposed to be about showcasing a towns merits, something noteworthy about the area. It is supposed to garner positive reactions and is as much for visitors to the town as for the residents.
Establishing long-lasting murals to showcase a current cultural issue does not make any sense, and I have never seen it anywhere else. It was the wrong decision to make, and was obviously a bended knee to the 'Woke'.
