They’re destroying our seniors’ neighbourhoods where, historically, the streets were clean and safe enough to walk to grocery store. Not now.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

NO, why not open up churches that sit empty 6 days a week instead.

Why should they be treated better than others or receive free hand outs for making bad decisions in their lives. Dont give that b.s. excuse that its mental health issues, when only a small minority of the homeless population have mental health issues.bob vernon wrote: ↑Dec 26th, 2022, 9:27 pm I can't believe the lack of comprehension here about the addicted and the mentally ill. The comments about "put them to work" and "kick them out in the spring" and "military police" are so out of touch with the real situation with the homeless. The lack of heat in the buildings means they are just a step up from a previous homeless camp, the one in the barns at the old racetrack.

Some churches are not empty 6 days a week and rent out space. Other churches have stepped up. Unfortunately insurance costs to repair damage and limited staff must be considered.

Yet some might believe what you stated which is why I commented.

The ones with severe mental illness are quite often the ones that make it so places like churches won't step up - sad as that is.

I say charity starts with the average British Columbian who pays the most taxes and NOT street beggars.
Now that's a statement and a half. But it will cause the jaws of the socialists to hit the floor.
I'm posting this from Traditional lands of the British Empire & the current Lands of The Dominion of Canada.
I also give thanks for this ethos richness bestowed on us via British Colonialism.

Even if there was enough homes to house the homeless there would still be homelessness and drug addicted junkies committing crime. Giving drug addicted junkies free homes will not fix them, the free homes would turn into crack shacks or drug dens. The addicts will still need their drugs to feed their addiction, housing will not change this.

I don't see churches advertising that they are about saving souls, so in that regard, I think you are wrong.
As for opening them to house people, churches are privately owned property. Government has no more right to force them to house people than they have the power to force you to house people in your house.
