If it is a legal habit, I do not understand why non-smokers freak out so much. Smokers pay taxes that exceed the expenses smokers put on the system, benefiting non-smokers along the way. There are just as much, if not more, costs on society created by overweight people than smoker and more than half the population is overweight. Furthermore, why are anti-smokers ok with legalizing weed? The only thing I can think of is that weed smokers rarely flick the butts because they save them for the bong...lol

More importantly, how exactly do we know that the majority of forest fires are started by cigarette butts? It does not appear as if the number of forest fires have declined with the number of smokers over time.

Oh OK, so since I have to eat its OK if I toss my Snickers wrapper on the ground then. Good to know - thanks :)

If you had 100 people smoking cigarettes outside in a park area, how many of the 100 do you think would find something to butt their cigarette out on versus the number who would crush it out on the ground?

Again; just a question.

Don't know, but that would be an interesting study.

I do have to agree with the point of available ashtrays though - it would be interesting to see if the percentage of butts on the ground has increased with the removal of so many ashtrays, whether it be in parks or outside businesses.

wouldn.t providing ashtrays or containers for butts eliminate the litter , and greatly reduce the risk of fire that seems to be the biggest pet peeve of the non smoking extremists ?
Yes I get it not all smokers are responsible however a lot of us are and are conscious of who's around us and where we are when we lite up and try to respect that others may not want to be close to where we {I} am smoking.
To selfishly not want to provide ashtrays or containers for butts is imo narrow minded and contributing to the problem.

That's right, its their personal habit, and a legal one at that. So leave them the hell alone with it. If you see them flick a butt out of the window or throw one on the ground, that's not a personal habit, that's plain ignorance and deal with that as what it is and not by twisting it into a personal habit you frown upon.

The arguement was we should take out garbage cans in public places if ashtrays aren't provided. Wasn't aware smoking also effected reading and comprehension. :)

I'm quite aware of the argument was, perhaps you should try to follow it a bit better ...

Have you ever heard of a pocket ashtray?

Ever hear of a pocket for your Snickers wrapper? Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go for a drive and toss my Timmie's cup out the window - after all everyone has to drink fluids.

Again, if you see someone flick a butt out of a car or throw it on the ground - deal with it as what it is - ignorance and leave the personal grudge against a habit you don't approve of.

If you don't think it's ridicules to think you have just as much right to ashtrays as people have to public washrooms and garbage cans in public places then you've lost perspective. And may I suggest a decaffeinated timmies, you seem alot defensive and a little on edge. ;)

And please stop whining that my issue is with smoking or that I'm on some anti smoking crusade. I've repeated over and over, I couldn't care less if you smoke. Just learn to deal with you're butts in a responsible manner and stop blaming everyone else for your lack of preparedness in dealing with your own personal mess.

How is that out of perspective? If it can possibly reduce the litter and chance of fires, there's no logical reason not to have them.

There coffee is so weak - decaffeinated would be pointless ;)

Then there's no need for such comments ...

LOL, Blaming everyone else , now that is funny. Pulled that one out of thin air nicely.
And what personal mess are you talking about.?

You say your not on an anti smoking crusade but ramblings in your post suggest otherwise.

I got one of those......it has http://www.BRAINGARDEN.ca on it... I use it in my belly boat when I'm camping... Screw starting a forest fire , I'm not burning a hole in my boat ore tainting a lake that provides my food..

All smokers aren't brain dead.. Idiots are idiots weather they smoke or do the Yoga.
