Not isolated showers, but actual showers. We could get a real soaking if it continues to develop. Obviously it won't keep the danger rating down for a very long time but at least it'll give the firefighters a break. Why complain about it? Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

I'm assuming you have statistics to back up your claim that "most" smokers aren't getting it and are the ones lighting up campfires during a ban and leaving them unattended? Or is that just your "opinion"?

This is just a question and does not represent the opinion of me, the asker.

If you had 100 people smoking cigarettes outside in a park area, how many of the 100 do you think would find something to butt their cigarette out on versus the number who would crush it out on the ground?

Again; just a question.

Hard to say ,I'm guessing the answer your looking for is that most would use the ground.!
The bigger question is would this park provide ash trays of some type, or containers to put butts in.?
My guess would be no as the anti smoking crowd would some how see that providing ash trays or containers for butts is promoting smoking and would be screaming bloody blue murder if they saw such objects in "THEIR" parks.

To bretbaby ...

That discarded cigarettes CAN cause fires is a given.

That some forest fires are started by discarded cigarettes is also a given.

That "few" or "most" forest fires are started by cigarettes is unsupported opinion.

Oh come on now.

And I am not looking for anything other than an opinion.

An honest one. Not a slanted one or one borne of prejudice or bias.

The question is slanted. You aren't allowed to smoke in parks in Kelowna!
Your bias suits you.

I knock the cherry off and stomp it out then put the butt in my pocket until I find a trash can.

According to this study done in Texas, 40% of all litter is cigarette related.

http://www.cigarettelitter.org

Here another study that says 65% of all butts end up as litter.

Since yours is the 'bigger question' I'll make my two of the smaller variety.

Why is it anyone else's responsibility but your own to provide a way for you to discard your cigarette?

Have you ever heard of a pocket ashtray?

So if it's up to the individual why are there any containers at all? If it's a leave no trace then garbages, outhouses, benches, etc shouldn't be there either.

Never said it was anybody else's responsibility.
So I guess by your obvious anti smoking stance and snide question, you'd be fine with all garbage cans removed from public areas as your garbage is your responsibility.

Nope can't say I have, but as hard as it may be for a anti smoking crusader to believe I always have something to butt out in before I lite up.

Smoking is a personal choice that a relatively small percentage of people partake in. Where as everyone has to eat, drink fluids and use the bathroom. So yours is a pretty damn thin arguement and only demonstrates the level of entitlement some smokers feel since they believe society as a whole should enable thier personal habit.
