It can be easily contained in those fuels.

There is so much more new fuel in the 2003 fire area. its had 12 years to regrow, so it might slow it down, but it will still give lots of fuel for it to burn

There are lots of new trees in that area as well, as well as old brush piles that would burn.

Fire rarely burns downhill, especially if the wind isn't blowing that direction and there is limited fuels.

I was hiking and driving in this area on the fire guard road that they made, and there's so much growth since the last big fire.....could jump that road sooooo easily. Never be too confident....since anything is possible......

Didn't the 2003 fire burn straight down the hill and burn houses??

So how do you explain the 2009 glenrosa fire that burned downhill? or any other fire that has burned downhill?

There was certainly fire burning downhill in Oliver a few weeks ago, all it takes is some downslope wind and those light fuels do burn pretty quick.

I said it rarely happens, but yes, occasionally it does.

(2003) Part of the problem was that it went through the trees so fast that it left a lot of fuel on the ground. That was one of worries, that if it turned on itself it would just keep going.

Fire burns where there is fuel - Shelter Cove burned right to the road.

Thank you for the map. Let's check the facts:
-lots of post 2003 fuel growth
-fire burns down hill if winds push it.
-wind is blowing downhill now
-firefighters are taking this seriously

Agreed - considering the firefighters are requesting boaters give them room - they must be taking it seriously or they'd move on to the next fire.
