Mobile Home Park eviction

Where is Horgan when just a few weeks ago, right in Penticton no less, new protections for Mobile Home Park residents were announced? Have the social activists scurried away and hid away in the shadows lest they bring light to the subject that tenants are subject to different laws when the landlord is a First Nation Locatee land owner?
These people are not only being asked to move out in 5 months, they also have to move their physical homes in that time frame. That assumes they could even find a place to move it to. Most will end up abandoning probably the only major asset they own.
Can anyone, in the context of this eviction notice, explain how "spirit of community" and "reconciliation" applies?

if you move on to first nations land you should know you will get evicted at some point they dont require a reason, and those people who are going to appeal it are wasting their time

What would the First Nations do if it were reversed? Maybe a blockade? Probably. Have they ever blockaded their own? Probably not.
I have one real problem with the eviction and that is the time frame. 5 months! Give them at least 1 year.
And what is going to be done with the land? Is this a kin to the renovictions in Vancouver? You know the ones, they evict in order to build something the rich will move in to. At the cost of low cost housing. Is the land going to be part of Barefoot? It butts up against it.
The optics of this eviction is really bad. Something is rotten in Locatee land.

Me thinks you pointed out the obvious. Way more money leasing the land to someone else for three months of camping season without dealing with low income tenants.

Never lease on native land. Laws don't exist there.

This eviction is another example of the apartheidesque country in which we live.
Laws and statutes based on race as opposed to one set of rules for one and all.

Absolutely.
And five months? Give me a break. Those poor people facing the realities of sky rocketing land values vs affordable living.

From what I understand, Wright's Beach Camp will cease to exist in the not-too-distant future, to be replaced by a lake-side resort.
There will have to be somewhere for all those summertime camping tourists to go.
With Barefoot having access to the beach, it makes sense.
I wonder if the mobile home park on the east side of the airport will face the same fate?

Leasing on first nations or locatee lands is more cost effective typically then leasing on non aboriginal lands. However the element of risk is much higher for a variety of different but known reasons. Currently I am told those in Red Wing who are nearing the end of a lease are being offered a 10 year extension for roughly $100K.
I feel for the people at this mobile home park however the moment you bought in you assumed a known risk. That is life and life is not always fair.

Yikes. I had it in my mind that a fifty year lease was standard in those situations but that development is what, thirty years old?

Well done Freddy Kruger apt name for the property owner you have cut 40 people from life . I only hope that your company goes to waste . As for the penticon council how about fast tracking housing for the families of this eviction notice before you give it the the ones that don't deserve it !!!!!!
