ILLEGAL horse-riding arena.... WIllowbrook Stables

Congratulations Willowbrook Stables making the news... Now your costing taxpayers court costs for your illegal riding arena. You should have applied for a permit before starting like the rest of us law abiding citizens. Sounds like a permit would have been denied due to the enormous size and placement of the structure. You were issued a stop work order, yet ignored it and continued to build for 3 months according to Castanet News. Why did you do that...afraid RDOS would make you tear it down ? I hope they do force you to do just that. We are governed by laws, what make you so special from the rest of us.

Agree, but the RDOS is spineless and will just keep sending letters.
A midnight re-alignment with a large excavator might set a precedent.

Not likely considering they voted to proceed with an injunction.

At Thursday's board meeting, the RDOS voted to seek a court injunction on the matter as per staff recommendation, despite the fact proceeding to court comes with costs.

This isn't the first time people have built something that needed to be removed after completion.

hmm maybe they should apply for Marijuana...then maybe the big building may be approved...then have those plans fall through...and then because now the building is there...make it a riding stable after.

At the same time...who cares not much back there anyways just grass and fences...finally someone want to do something with their land and curtain twitches are there to ruin it.

Has nothing to do with curtain twitchers. Why should one be allowed to ignore what they were told to do and others have to comply?

What makes people think they can do whatever they want without regard for rules in place?

"not much back there anyways" How about the neighbors view of the openness , now stuck staring at this monster building that's larger than the average commercial dairy barn

So you support law breaking individuals that break the rule of law, by not applying for a building permit, get caught and flat out tell RDOS to pound sand after being issued a stop work order half way through construction ? Yep thought so

Pleasantly surprised the RDOS is taking them to court.

If they required a building permit, then they should have purchased one. Really should not have rules for some and not others, regardless of where one lives.

If a cease work order was issued why was the work allowed to continue ? Why were the current bylaws not being enforced ?

Now the building is up & the RDOS is going to Court, it's a touch too late ? IMO all that will happen is the owner will be given a very stern lecture from the judge with lots of blah - blah & handed a $500 fine & it'll be time to saddle up & carry on ?

Looks like these owners only bought this property early 2018 (moving from Mission) with the full intent of building and operating a horse riding school. They knew full well what they were doing was against the law without permits and approvals. Also begs the question what are the laws regarding square footage for home based businesses in the area. It's not farming related, it's a sports facility.

Obviously you're not privy to legalities. How do you expect work to be halted if the owner wishes to continue? You know that work that was completed have had to be torn away.
