I wonder who else has gone through the proper channels with any building or structures in that area...I guess this owner could also ask RDOS to look into everyone's outbuildings and or houses to see if their house extension renovation or shed is up to code and had the proper building permit. Be careful what you ask for I guess...RDOS might start looking at you too.

I'm sure there are lots of non-permitted sheds, fences, reno's etc where people have gotten away with. But to start a project of this enormous scale with out a permit is plain crazy and stupid. Then to get hostile towards bylaw and RDOS for challenging your stupidity and dishonest behavior and flat out disregard for authority really speaks volumes of the owners integrity.

I'm sorry buy Willowbrook Stables needs to be shut down, who would want to deal with such dishonest people.

RDOS needs to take a stand and set a precedent and order the removal of the structure so future situations will be avoided.

There are some people in society who truly believe the laws & regulations don't apply to them. As long as no one complains, they get away with it.
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

so tell the RDOS to look into all the buildings around the area...if its complaint driven...then start complaining about everyone...

They thought their newly purchased home was under farm status and when when they were told it wasn't they applied for that status and were approved. Nothing was said of the time frame so I question why work continued and why wasn't the variance filled out at the time of farm status approval.

Why would anyone go around taking pictures and submitting complaints if they don't live in the area?

Yep, permit check on "X" size radius around this location should be done. I wouldn't be surprised if more infractions are found.

What a bunch of BS

"RDOS is correct that we didn’t apply for a permit, we thought that our newly purchased home was under farm status"
Just because you have farm status doesn't exempt you from getting a building permit !

"When it was brought to our attention that it was not, we did apply for that status and have been approved"
It takes longer than 2 months to be farm status approved, ours took over a year.

"We have provided a place where "horse people" to ride and not have the worry or maintain the facility themselves."
Very few people have horses and there are plenty of places for them to ride without having to use your facility. You only have narrow 12 acres not really much of a farm to have such large buildings.

"We are fully willing to fill out the exemption form and have the building inspected."
Sure you are...so lying, being dishonest and hostility towards the RDOS shows your willing? So why didn't you show up to state your case?

The RDOS will not release a statement like this if there was no basis to it.

He sure will. And when his full patch buddies from MIssion come to visit his new digs, a few people might be wishing they were a little less vocal.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Bureaucrats are the true disease in our country and indeed the world. The un-elected privileged. They are always trying to expand their power and limit their accountability. They always demand that more of their oversight is what us unwashed masses need. They are the ones that profit from all the dystopia created by political correctness. So many Great men through history from Plato, Ptolemy to Henry David Thoreau to Fredrick Douglas to Slavoj Zizek etc. They and others have warned us of the parasitic pathogen that is the Bureaucrat. It is a disease that will rot a society and weaken a society it until it collapses under its own weight. It has happen numerous times in the past and if we are not careful it will happen to the socialist utopia Canada.
They and all those that make the state their god and fixer are the problem. They are in fact the enemy of the people and freedom.

Wow. I didn’t realize that asking someone to follow the same set of rules the rest of us follow, would have such dire consequences for society.

Some people are hard wired to stir the pot, if for nothing else but to give themselves some feeling of power and control. This is a character defect and should not be encouraged.

That being said, the scale of this project and the apparent disregard for due process needs some attention or it just sends the message that RDOS regulations/enforcement has no teeth and can be ignored at anyone's convenience. Now, from the sounds of things the building is structurally safe and sound, it is the placement that is the question, too close to property lines to meet set back requirements. If that infraction is not too extreme, and presents no "danger" so to speak, then perhaps a significant fine would be a solution, enough to discourage others from showing the same poor judgment but less than the cost of actually moving the building.

Appears the owners refuse to pay and won't apply for the variance.
