I sometimes think that GoFundMe might have a purpose but in this case I might suggest the funds be refunded once he's on his feet. He broke all the rules.

I am one of those posters !!
Just hope none of the GoFundme profits they are making go towards his criminal defence lawyer.
RCMP should be charging him for his careless actions.

PS ... speedy recovery to the young girl, she didnt deserve this because of her father's stupid actions.

I think the GoFundMe monies will be well-spent on the medical bills for the two, but I think they might need more than $10,000. Maybe if there is a little left over, dad can use it to pay for alcohol counselling.

Dad hopefully can get that counselling behind bars where he belongs IMO

The GoFundMe is inactive now - they completed the goal. I believe the funds were to get them through the next couple of months with no income coming in and to help with chores like snow shovelling and things like transportation (I believe there's a son that has commitments). I assume charges will be forthcoming of impaired driving and no insurance etc. As well as the snowmobile should be impounded and his driver's licence suspended. Probably won't see anything further for a month.

I am absolutely disgusted by this man's actions and the harm it has brought his daughter. Insane. Absolute stupidity.

UPDATE: 11:40 a.m.
The GoFundMe Page has since been closed after strong reaction from the public over Castanet's initial story.

Anyone else have a question about the latest statement?

The GoFundMe Page has since been closed after strong reaction from the public over Castanet's initial story.

What strong reaction?

And this is the initial story:

A fun family outing turned horribly wrong on Boxing Day.

Warren Busch and his 11 year old daughter were out on their skidoo riding in Okanagan Falls on Maple Street when they were hit by a car.

Warren suffered a broken knee, tibia, ankle and two broken ribs and has to take at least eight weeks off of work.

The daughter spent several weeks at Kelowna General Hospital with a broken hip and fractured pelvic bones. She has lost blood flow to one kidney and has a laceration on the other.

Doctors have said she is not allowed any weight bearing for 12 weeks.

Warren's sister Kathleen has set up a GoFundMe page to help with lost wages.

"... is in good spirits so far. She is getting around the house with a walker and also has a wheelchair for longer distances. We are hoping she will be able to return to school perhaps next week, for short periods at a time," Kathleen wrote.

''Warren is hobbling around on his crutches. He has a brace on right now so he can keep his leg moving to avoid any blood clot," she added.

Penticton RCMP are investigating the incident.

Why would there be a strong reaction from the public that would have the GoFundMe page terminated just as the goal was reached?

People just might be getting sick and bloody tired of Go Fund Me sob stories in the news , and the fact that THIS particular sob story is because a benefactor was responsible for the unfortunate occurrence through his negligence and extreme stupidity. The dad should go fund himself. All the proceeds should be held in trust for the girl alone.

Still didn't answer my questions and what about the wife/mother who has to stay home now and look after both of them? She's losing wages through no fault of her own and has quite the work schedule ahead of her at home. One of the reasons for the GoFundMe.

Agreed. As far as the "sob" story is concerned, the GoFundMe had over $8,000 raised in about 5 days and prior to the story being on Castanet. What was asked for was detailed in the request.

GoFundMe is strictly voluntary, so if someone wants to contribute to a cause, regardless of how repugnant it is to anyone else, it is their business.
I am surprised at how quickly these pages get started and how quickly money is donated.
Seems quite often money is collected before the whole story comes out.
If innocent people donate and feel they have been hoodwinked by a sob-story, it is still their problem for donating to something without checking it out.

Her husband should sell everything exclusively-his that doesn’t bring benefit to the family and hand the proceeds the hell over to her. He’s got some heavy sacrifices to make, but that’s just my opinion that is currently rooted firmly in rage.

The daughter's condition and the monies going towards her doesn't change with more of the story coming out. She still needs help for the next few months and can only rely on her mother and maybe her brother (aunt and friends - just not her dad).

I just really don't like how the DIRECT links are provided now in every story.

Can the media's article just not mention that a GoFundme page has been created. Then anyone wishing to donate can search for it themselves??

That's not a bad idea at all. This particular news story didn't have all the facts before providing the link. I would think Facebook connections provided most of the interest on the GoFundMe page.
