I wonder if they took out all the asbestos (if there was any) out of the home first.

It was probably removed by the "scrappers" a long time ago.

My question is how can a property owner be this disgusting. More than a year the city has had tried to deal with this owner to no avail. Finally going all the way through the legal system in order to finally alleviate the abominable situation.
People are enraged about Cherry but oh so silent when a fellow citizen does so much harm to the community.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

The owner has been all over the news and there was another topic started about him a year ago.

I’m sure they just” let go “and threw away the demo crew after the job was done. Asbestos is terrible on the companys safety record.

And what does that have to do with my assertion of lack of outrage compared to the Cherry incident? Nothing even in the same class of outrage towards the owner as was to Cherry.
Could the reason that the outrage is less is because of the owner's heritage and people are too scared to call him out? Afraid of being called a racist? This is the sad state we live in now.
Regardless, this property owner has put the people who reside in the area in harm for a very long time. And has done nothing until forced to by the city. Not sure what kind of person would do that but it's not someone I would like to know. Ever.

Maybe compare apples to apples instead of apples to oranges (or in this case Cherry). One is more local - the other Canadian wide. One situation is totally different from the other.

As soon as the problem tenants were evicted a year ago, remediation was done by a licensed company and the house was boarded up.

Nothing has gone through the legal system. The City, after doing their due process, ordered the house to be demolished by December 31. The owner took immediate action and had the house demolished a month before the deadline. The owner also owns the two houses beside this one and has good tenants and no issues with the neighbours or the City with those.

The 377 Winnipeg owner has been named in Castanet news stories regarding the Gables properties. That is borderline libel as he does not own those properties. When Castanet has been contacted about those stories, they have edited them to say that "his family" owns them. One single family member owns those properties, does not live in Penticton, and the owner of 377 Winnipeg is being named solely because he helps his family member to deal with any issues about those properties as he lives here. There were 12 of the old Three Gables Hotel rooms on the second floor of the current Gable's Beer & Wine store that were being rented very cheaply to those who were on fixed incomes. Again, a few of those tenants were bad and caused a lot of damage, disabled the fire system, and the Fire Department did an inspection and ultimately condemned the second floor apartments. Since then, the owner of that property has replaced the roof at a cost of just over $50,000.00 and is in the process of renovating those apartments. There are very large costs involved and sometimes that means that things don't get done immediately. It doesn't mean that the owner needs to be labelled disgusting, as another poster said. The property taxes for the beer store and the two empty lots on Main Street and Martin Street are also close to $50,000.00 a year. I don't see the City complaining about that lol

Wow. He's put people in harm? He owns the two houses right next door to 377 and has never had a problem with them because the tenants are respectful. The tenants of 377 were admittedly bad. They are gone now. They have been gone for a year.

And his heritage? He's lived in Penticton for 30+ years. His kids were born here. I don't think anyone is afraid of being called a racist as his heritage has nothing to do with any of this.
