Lot good that information did.
It does put a pretty big hole in the boat of anyone thinking about laying off Penticton's crime issues on the prison.

Heaven forbid we stigmatize those who vandalize public washrooms! Maybe they can go to you home when they are moved along.

Leaves one with the impression when he says that he doesn't want more 'stigma' that gilbert is actually promoting more drug use which is the problem to begin with ... would be nice if he could focus on the root cause of the problems which should not include solutions to the problems he creates.

:135: That's certainly one way to interpret that I suppose?

From the Castanet article:
“I do have concerns in regards to when we’re moving people out of public spaces, where do they go?” said coun. Isaac Gilbert. “I know we’re trying our best here to not induce more stigma, but we also realize how much of our (2023) budget were bylaw and law enforcement services.”
These are legitimate concerns. It puts a lot of responsibility on the part of Bylaw Enforcement Officers to to remain objective in assessing any situation as to the level of severity, public nuisance vs. public disturbance and such. There is an all-to-human tendency to look at these duties as "taking out the trash", which can lead to losing sight of Mayor Bloomfield's statement that “This is about helping people get the services that they need and not about being punitive and handing out fines”. Stigmatization is a real thing.

Handing out fines for doing something wrong, putting people in prison for crimes, etc is not stigmatization. Spending money on more bylaw doesn't solve the problem either. both gilbert and bloomfield are making the problem worse rather than addressing the problems that come from giving people 'free' needles, places to shoot up dangerous drugs, and so-called 'safe' supplies to dopers that should be seeking real help to overcome their addictions etc ... those are are doing the bad things are not the victims. Those that have to pay over and over and over again are the victims ...

Heard that dilbert thinks that councillors showing up at public meetings to consult on bike lanes is something like unethical .... that seems rather odd for a councillor to even suggest that ... furthermore apparently he thinks that the public/staff get intimidated by councillors given their highly visible role which is also surprising in and of itself when it was only James Miller that showed up at the Seniors centre for the fake consultations .... makes one wonder why Miller, one of the few vocal opponents to the devastation caused by the bike lanes, had some dirt dug up on him ... perhaps gilbert is the dirty one ...

Gilbert's claim that it is inappropriate or unethical for councillors to show up at open houses is simply not supported by any City policy or guidelines. Seems to be the stuff of fairy tales or a vivid imagination. Smoke and mirrors to deceive the public!
