Figured we probably need one of these threads to keep things organized.

If you want to view the Fort McMurray fire, it's visible on this webcam:

I circled the airport in blue, where the webcam is. The fire is circled in red and the black arrow indicates its direction of travel. It's making a direct run towards Fort McMurray.

I'm reading the latest updates on twitter, it sounds like they're evacuating the entire city except Macdonald island.

Hard to imagine a whole city under an evacuation order. Just hope everyone gets out safe.

Just saw this on the News. Horrifying!! She said they are evacuating people who have already been evacuated. A few gas stations have gone up, now the fire is hitting houses. This is BAD, real bad. I hope all our Albertans here are OK!
To PC liberals who are offended at the Christ child in a manger, I have GREAT news for you! The next time you see Him, he won't be in a manger! Sadly, if you can't handle His first appearance, you're REALLY not going to like His second appearance.

From the Edmonton journal.
Fort McMurray’s more than 80,000 residents have been ordered to flee the oilsands city because of a massive wildfire, fuelled by soaring temperatures and tinder-dry forest.

At 6:20 p.m., a mandatory evacuation order was issued for the entire city, with residents advised to head north to Noralta Lodge and wait for further instructions.

The wildfire burning in the city limits that has forced the largest evacuation in Alberta’s history is expected to get worse Wednesday, when winds are forecast to switch direction and increase in intensity, at speeds of 25 to 50 kilometres per hour.

At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Premier Rachel Notley said that this evacuation is likely “the largest fire evacuation we’ve seen in the history of the province. This is bigger than Slave Lake.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the wildfire crossed into Fort McMurray city limits, setting homes ablaze in the Centennial Trailer Park and the community of Abasand.

Scott Long, with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, told an afternoon press conference in Edmonton that 29,000 Albertans had been evacuated. The hospital was also being evacuated.

Just talked to a friend whose daughter works in Fort Mac. She's been evacuated - she called her mom but the phone died so her friends called to let her mom know she's okay and will keep her updated.

Some of the oil sites are being shut down, workers are being flown home tonight to clear out the camps and make room for the evacuees.

I'll post some pics later. Phone is almost dead.
