it's getting very dry out there! this is from the Washington state part of the Okanagan/Okanogan. :)

LAWN MOWER CAUSED FIRE:
Omak and Okanogan fire departments responded to a grass fire at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds at 10:30 am this morning.
Cause of fire—lawn mower blade struck a rock causing a spark that ignited the dry grass.
When a mower‘s metal blades hit a rock, causing sparks that ignite dried grass, it's similar to starting a campfire with a flint and steel.
A good rule of thumb for anyone who needs to mow dried grass or brush around their homes is to wet it down first, mow in the morning or when humidity is higher, and avoid mowing altogether on hot, dry, windy days. Ideally, residents should start mowing close to their homes and work outward. Mowing first near the house creates a kind of fire break should a fire occur.
Great response by Omak and Okanogan Fire Departments.

I lived there during the last major bog fire. The smoke gets real bad and the fire can burn under ground for a very long time due to the peat base. There are no houses in that area and it is a wilderness park.

^^It is called "Burns Bog Delta Nature Reserve" - not a 'Wilderness Park". I lived in Delta and my house was about 2 km from Burns Bog!!

Any way you slice it, you cannot say that Burns Bog is a 'Wilderness Park" with no houses around it:

Police say fire fighters from across the Lower Mainland have been called in to help fight a blaze burning in a conservation area in suburban Vancouver.

The Delta Police Department said in a release Sunday afternoon that the fire had forced the evacuation of a nearby industrial area.

Hopefully they will get it contained before it jumps again - water bombers and helicopters called in.
