Green Party Platform Tops According to Economist

Post by world2change »

Economist find BC Greens Platform most comprehensive, called "clear, sensible policy." So much so Greens are referred to as “a card-carrying member of the economist party”

So why are we wasting our breath talking about who is worse to vote for BC Liberals or BC NDP?

You are correct.I am not a NDP fanatic as they do have some things to improve on,and yes the Greens make a more mature logical and eco sense platform to us .I think if the Greens and the NDP could soften some of their positions ,they could find a little common ground. Then if required to stop a BC Lib win,a limited coalition [icon_lol2.gif] could be a possibility to achieve that goal...but only if they agree that they would be compromising for what is best for all the people of BC.It would require the parties to partially swallow their platform for the overall benefit of the people, not their parties agenda
Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing. Zero cuckery. You and 917 others hate this post.

Looks like the economists feel that the Green Party cancelling Site C is good for BC's economy.

If you mean cancelling a project that has no demand, is killing private sector jobs and innovation in local communities around BC, has no business case, will raise BC Hydro dates and debt to astronomical levels, kill agricultural jobs and northern food security, then good. Don't take my word for it, you have the former head of BC Hydro, Joint Review Panel, and Province's own accountants KPMG showing it's a bad project. A recent report said we're still better off eating the cost and killing it now.

$9 Billion is a big make work project and fiscally reckless when you consider the kinds of jobs and opportunities you could provide on projects we absolutely need.

So yes BC Green should kill Site C. As Kevin O'Leary would say in the Dragon's Den, it's time to stop the insanity and STOP.

Has it ever dawned on you that a person can like a lot of a parties ideas, but not all of them?

You're simply engaging in your little game, of reading what you want to see, into something that was written, be it true or not.

The NDP tooters realize that the NDP have the worst platform, and old tired failed hacks from the 1990s debacle running the party.

So they will dis the Greens, dis the Libs, because that is all they have. Both the Greens and Liberals have better platforms, and cohesive policies (whether you agree with them or not), combined with competent folks. The NDP have the old hacks and "elastic" platform that will actually deliver nothing for anyone and doesn't add up fiscally. There is nothing constructive there,

The Green platform has some excellent ideas - their combination of daycare choices and early childhood education is brilliant. The BC Libs are status quo (best provincial economy and job growth/income growth atm) but have taken ideas from the Greens in the past and worked with them. Imagine that - the Greens make a constructive suggestion and the Libs go along with it.

Combine the two platforms, half of the Greens, half of the Liberals and I would vote that party any day!
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

Doesn't Weaver want to dramatically raise taxes? And carbon taxes? What kind of boneheaded economist would vote for that?
Epistemic insouciance is a casual lack of concern about the facts or an indifference to whether one's statements have any basis in reality. From now on the Liberal Party of Canada will be known as the "Epistemic Insouciance Party of Canada".

I agree GB. At least Weaver is being honest though. Unlike Horgan, he's not telling us that he'll appoint a committee that will report back and tell him how he'll pay for the promises. That's why Horgan is losing support.

An economist looks at what's best for the economy and society as a whole, not electioneering. Your point is precisely why the BC Liberals continue to fool voters who can't see past their superficial claim of not raising taxes that what matters is looking at most effective use of tax dollars as a whole and having fair and equitable tax system. That means progressive, rather than regressive taxes, being honest- not pretending MSP premiums, allowing housing costs to inflate and inflating BC Hydro and ICBC rates to take dividends to balance the budget aren't taxes.

A carbon tax is meant to encourage people to lower their carbon footprint, which I doubt you're doing voluntarily. The carbon tax in BC actually has made the BC economy stronger. What's important is not ignoring the hard truths but providing people with options. BC Liberals want to carbon tax you but fund only more highways and bridges communities don't want. Each car costs a family $10 k a year. This neglect is far costlier and increases congestion than funding transit and better urban planning.

This just sounds like a bunch of made up nonsense. I was sure I saw Weaver say he was going to jack up taxes on people making over $108,000. That's neither fair, nor equitable. That's just stupid.

A carbon tax is meant to encourage people to lower their carbon footprint, which I doubt you're doing voluntarily.

Why would anyone do this voluntarily or otherwise? Who the :cuss: cares about something so stupid???

The carbon tax in BC actually has made the BC economy stronger.

How has it made the economy stronger by stupidly punishing poor people? This statement above is beyond ludicrous. The entire ideology behind the carbon tax is pure evil. Which is why I want both the Liberals and the NDP to go.
