....My wife had to stop her car and snuff out a cigarette just a mile down the road from this fire last week! In the midst of the worst wildfire season ever, that people continue to throw their smokes out the window is astounding.....

Fire officials say it's too early to determine an exact cause, but some residents that live nearby say they witnessed a motorist flick a cigarette out the window.

It is a good bet that this fire was caused by smoking material being thrown from a vehicle or a pedestrian smoking and throwing a butt. At any rate, there can be little doubt that it was human caused. That there are so many stupid people about defies the imagination.

I'd say you're right. Same goes for the Ashcroft Reserve fire, except you can't say that unless you want to be branded a racist.

thats right glac . because until the actual culprite is identified theres zero way of knowing the ethnicity of who it was . not everyone who lives on a reserve is first nations

I heard that lady interviewed , and she CLEARLY stated that she "assumed" it was started by a butt flicked. It probably was , but she does not know. There are also two hydro poles right there , and I would assume there is probably also trash in the ditch. Between Vernon and Salmon arm on Wednesday , I saw three vehicles that had pulled of to the side of the highway for whatever reason , and parked in dead dry grass that was about 8 inches long. Cigarettes don't start fires , IDIOTS start fires.

I called in some idiot tossing a lit smoke out the window onto the highway a few days ago. We all need to keep our eyes open and call *5555 if we see people doing this. It's sad that there are so many idiots out there.
