Tautri - Chezacut

Post by Glacier »

The massive Tautri fire north of Alexis Creek has now combined with the Chezacut fire (Chezacut is a small ranching community northwest of Alexis Creek). This means the fire is now closing in on 100,000 hectares.

Yeah it looks like a bunch of the fires in that area are starting to combine.

Over 1,000,000 acres have burned on the Chilcotin Plateau this year. That's over 400,000 hectares, and doesn't count Elephant Hill or 100 Mile or most of the fires around Williams Lake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilcotin_Plateau

Hopefully the sheer magnitude of these fires will get some action on fire mitigation steps, which comes down to controlled burns. I have little hope the anti-carbon group that we now have in government will go for it, but I don't expect them to be around too long.

One silver lining from these fires will be the huge boost to wildlife populations that have been declining as they watched fire suppression destroy their fire-dependent ecosystems over the years. Controlled burns will help wildlife as well as protect people's homes, so it's time we stopped dilly-dallying and got to work doing what nature intended.

My brother and his crew were called off the Hanceville fire yesterday as the wind blew the fire in on itself. He has been moved to the Chezacut area where the fires have absolutely exploded.

The Tautri fire is now 92,062 hectares.
The Chezacut fire is now 17,265 hectares.

The more concerning fire has been burning for a while but wasn't a fire of note because it was remote, but yesterday's winds blew it over toward Chezacut. It's called Arc Mountain and sits at 6,500 hectares.

Further north, the Baezaeko River fire is now 60,000 hectares.

The fires above could all combine to form one fire over 200,000 hectares.
