Firefighters are responding to a new blaze approximately 15 kilometres northwest of Summerland, B.C.


The fire, which is in the Darke Creek area, is currently estimated at four hectares.

Six firefighters, two helicopters and air tankers are responding.

Twenty-one properties near Darke Lake Valley have been placed on an evacuation alert.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen issued the alert due to the threat of the Darke Creek wildfire north of Faulder in Electoral Area F.

"Because of the potential danger to life, health, and property damage, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen(RDOS) has issued an evacuation alert for the lands indicated in the attached mapped area which include 21 properties and Darke Lake Provincial Park," stated the RDOS in a release to media.
