If it stays clear we should see about 90% eclipse, but either cloud cover or smoke will make that difficult.
If I had my choice I'd take the smoke, because you will still be able see the sun via orangey red.

Don't look directly at the sun without proper protection
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Ugh.....how many times do we need to be told not to look directly at the sun with the naked eye?

If you don't know not to look at the sun without protection, you deserve to have your retinas burned!

People are stupid.

8,000 times may not be enough.

As it stands, the curling rink is hosting public viewing, and I'll be there!

Oh ya, this should be good.

Why such an jerkish response? Gordon was giving a heads up, there are people out there who don't know this stuff. Or perhaps a parent is reading and it will remind them "Oh *bleep*, need to make sure to tell my kids." ... Who knows? Looks like you need to take a couple chill pills and learn how to relax.

No doubt! Seems we have to pander to the lowest common denominator all the time.

My remark wasn't directly referenced to you Gordon. It's just every single time on tv or online that it's discussed they repeatedly mention it. I learned not to stare at the sun since I can remember looking at the sun. [icon_lol2.gif]

And don't damage your camera either! No pointing it at the sun without special preparation.

^ Here is a list of what could go wrong.

Damaging your eyes is first, of course.

People who aren't well organized or have some sort of mental handicap might need a reminder. Not talking about anyone here but it's just an obvious point to make.

Was in Winnipeg for the Monday morning February 26,1979 solar eclipse. What we witnessed was TOTAL for over 2 minutes and it was an "eerie" feeling..........a bright, cold winter morning turned into night. Winnipeg had a Planetarium and I remember how big of a deal this was for the local astronomers. People stopped, cars stopped..........I remember dead silence. 38 1/2 years ago.............seems like yesterday. Hope there is something to be in awe of here in Kelowna when 83 % of the sun will be blocked.

Isn't it interesting that we hear of people who have suffered eye damage from looking at the sun

during an eclipse but we don't hear much about animals suffering from similar maladies?

I'm bringing my cat back in well in advance of the eclipse. She won't be outside.

I waited too long to get protective lenses and everyone is sold out. :-X

Plan on watching eclipse through my old Iphone with a pair of sunglasses over the lense.

Hopefully it'll work but does anyone knows where lenses are still available?
