Interesting news regarding the melting of the Greenland ice shield.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech ... below.html

Flow of hot rocks rising from the Earth's core beneath central Greenland is melting the ice from below and contributing to sea-level rise, study finds.

Melting of ice in central Greenland is being accelerated by the heat of molten rocks rising from the core–mantle boundary, adding to sea-level rise, a study has found.

Researchers from Japan mapped out the extent and branches of the so-called 'Greenland plume' — the rising flow of molten rock ascending beneath the island.

Is this in addition to global warming/climate change?
Now we await the opinion of the other experts, and of course Greta.

"Clean energy has already passed its economic tipping point. A 2019 report from the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Institute found that it was cheaper to build and use a combination of renewables like wind and solar than to build new natural gas plants. A 2020 report from Carbon Tracker found that in every single one of the world’s energy markets, it’s cheaper to invest in renewables than in coal"

BOMBSHELL FINDING

The dogmatic claim used to be that west coast salmon were dying off due to the catch all "climate change" condition. The un-scientific claims stated salmon are being "cooked" in slightly warmer waters in such articles as these:

https://www.pbs.org/wnet/peril-and-prom ... ng-salmon/

https://www.popsci.com/climate-change-s ... northwest/

Apparently science has finally spoken and the real reason for salmon mortality has more to do with a ubiquitous automobile tire-rubber derived chemical which is more active during rainy season and spawning time. Thankfully now that we know the "real" reason, we can fight for a real solution. Also, no indication slightly higher temperatures have any effect at all. The antiozonant 6PPD is used to help preserve rubber products.

"A ubiquitous tire rubber–derived chemical induces acute mortality in coho salmon"
https://science.sciencemag.org/content/ ... ce.abd6951

ABSTRACT
"In U.S. Pacific Northwest coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), stormwater exposure annually causes unexplained acute mortality when adult salmon migrate to urban creeks to reproduce. By investigating this phenomenon, we identified a highly toxic quinone transformation product of N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine) (6PPD), a globally ubiquitous tire rubber antioxidant. Retrospective analysis of representative roadway runoff and stormwater-impacted creeks of the U.S. West Coast indicated widespread occurrence of 6PPD-quinone (<0.3-19 μg/L) at toxic concentrations (LC50 of 0.8 ± 0.16 μg/L). These results reveal unanticipated risks of 6PPD antioxidants to an aquatic species and imply toxicological relevance for dissipated tire rubber residues."

A couple of mistakes here

January 2020
https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/global-climate-202001
The January 2020 global land and ocean surface temperature was the highest in the 141-year record at 2.05°F (1.14°C) above the 20th century average of 53.6°F (12.0°C). This value surpassed the previous record set in 2016 by only 0.04°F (0.02°C). This was also the fourth highest monthly temperature departure from average in the 1,681-month record. Only March 2016, February 2016 and December 2015 had a greater temperature departure.
You are indeed factually correct. Jan 2020 was the warmest January on record.

February 2020
https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/global-climate-202002
The February 2020 global land and ocean surface temperature was 2.11°F (1.17°C) above the 20th century average of 53.8°F (12.1°C). This was the second highest for February in the 141-year record and was the third highest monthly temperature departure from average in the 1,682-month record. Only March 2016 and February 2016 had a higher temperature departure.
This is indeed correct.

March 2020
https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/global-climate-202003
The March 2020 global land and ocean surface temperature was 2.09°F (1.16°C) above the 20th century average of 54.9°F (12.7°C). This was the second highest for March in the 141-year record and tied with February 2020 and December 2015 as the third highest monthly temperature departure from average in the 1,683-month record. Only February and March 2016, when a strong El Niño was present in the tropical Pacific Ocean, had higher temperature departures.
This is factually incorrect. March 2020 is tied with March 2019 for the 9th warmest month on record.

April 2020
https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/global-climate-202004
The April 2020 global land and ocean surface temperature was 1.91°F (1.06°C) above the 20th-century average of 56.7°F (13.7°C). This was the second highest April temperature in the 141-year record. Only April 2016 was warmer at +2.03°F (+1.13°C).
This is wrong. April 2020 was warmer than April 2016.

May 2020
The May 2020 global surface temperature was 1.71°F (0.95°C) above the 20th-century average of 58.6°F (14.8°C), tying with 2016 as the highest for May in the 141-year record.

May 2020 marked the 44th consecutive May and the 425th consecutive month with temperatures, at least nominally, above the 20th century average.

The 10 warmest Mays have all occurred since 1998. However, the 2014-2020 Mays are the seven warmest in the 141-year record.
This is indeed true.
Since May, June was tied with 2019. July was 2nd behind 2019. Aug was 3rd behind 2016 and 2019, Sept was the warmest on record, October was 4th.

2020 will likely edge out 2016 for the warmest year on record.

Coldest day on record

Sunday morning set new records for coldest temperatures in the north end of the region, while the southern portion came close.

Kamloops blew past the previous record for coldest Oct. 25 in history, which was set at -7.8 C in 1954.

"We recorded temperatures of -11.2 C this morning in Kamloops," says Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven, adding that it hit the low sometime between 6 and 8 a.m.

Just a little farther south, Vernon shattered the old record which has stood for over 100 years.

"We recorded -10.1 C in Vernon, which beat the previous record which was -5.6 C set back in 1919," says Erven. "It kind of knocked the old record out of the park."

As for Kelowna, while it did come very close, the city did not quite set a record. This morning's temperatures came in second place with -5.5 C, with the current record standing at -6.1 C, set in 1970. Penticton recorded its fourth-coldest Oct. 25 ever at -3.4 C.

European Union leaders reached a hard-fought deal Friday to cut the bloc’s net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by the end of the decade compared with 1990 levels, avoiding a hugely embarrassing deadlock ahead of a U.N. climate meeting this weekend. https://www.castanet.net/news/World/318 ... ight-talks
Embarrassment was avoided. Yippee! What a relief! [/sarcasm]
Large swaths of the record-high 1.82 trillion-euro package are set to pour into programs and investments designed to help the member states, regions and sectors particularly affected by the green transition, which are in need of a deep economic and social transformation. EU leaders have agreed that 30% of the package — some 550 billion euros — should be used to support the transition.

Still, agreeing on common language was not an easy task. Negotiations were punctuated throughout the night by intense discussions in the plenary session and multiple chats in smaller groups on the sidelines.
Deciding how to spend 1.82 trillion - a record high - of the taxpayers' money came down to this:
Another delay in revising the EU’s current 40% emission cuts objective for 2030 would have been particularly embarrassing before the virtual Climate Ambition Summit marking five years since the Paris deal, and leaders worked to the wire to seal a deal.
But wait, there's more good news for those who believe public policy should be based on popular opinion:
French President Emmanuel Macron praised “a major signal” that will enable EU leaders “to bring in our wake our big international partners, especially the United States and China.”
Now that the clique has resolved its differences, they figure they have even more leverage to embarrass other leaders into going along with the clique.

For too long, the world has been making policy decisions to avoid embarrassment and to appease the "wants" of others - as though the leaders are adolescents concerned more about what their peers think than about sound policy. Surely it's time for them to grow up.

That is why China and India are building coal power plants at record pace? I dare you to invest some of your own money into a renewable energy company compared to Suncor. Suncor will make your rich. Renewables will make you poor.

Failed climate related predictions by politicians, media, and scientists - just in time for the end of 2020. I find it interesting that not only did Tuvalu originate claims of doom, they are also building new airports and experiencing profound economic growth from the last 6 years.

In addition to this and according to a newly published study:

"Alarmism Dies In The Maldives 97% Of 186 Island Coasts Have Grown (59%) Or Not Changed (38%) Since 2005".

"Despite sea level rise, a 2019 global analysis (Duvat, 2019) found 89% of 709 island coasts have been either stable or growing in size in recent decades. A new Maldives-only study (Duvat, 2020) finds rapid (>3 to >50%) coastal growth in 110 of 186 Maldives islands from 2005 to 2016. Just 5 islands – 2.7% – actually contracted in size during this period."

Thanks to funding from guilty countries, the Maldives has been able to build 4 new airports. Apparently Climate Change is not creating any large group of migrants from this location.

2020 will likely edge out 2016 for the warmest year on record.
According to UAH6.0:

"2020 ended as the 2nd warmest year in the 42-year satellite tropospheric temperature record at +0.49 deg. C, behind the 2016 value of +0.53 deg. C.

Cooling in December was largest over land, with 1-month drop of 0.60 deg. C, which is the 6th largest drop out of 504 months. This is likely the result of the La Nina now in progress."

This was in part due to the current La Nina giving us a December temperature of 0.27C.
