More news in regards to Hunga Tonga. It's been a great opportunity to monitor changing atmospheric chemistry because of the volcano.

Two research papers have now detailed how that water vapor rapidly affected the Earth’s stratosphere between 10 and 31 miles above the surface, causing an unexpectedly large loss of ozone and an unexpectedly rapid formation of aerosols.


Our measurements showed that stratospheric ozone concentrations decreased rapidly – by as much as 30% in air with the highest water vapor concentrations – in the immediate wake of the eruption

For all we know, it is natural sources of chlorine rather than CFCs doing significant damage. Those who do study atmospherics appear to be surprised by a great many things.

Hunga Tonga is a submarine volcano. It's massive eruption sent 50 Tg (teragrams) of water vapor in to the stratosphere. I suppose the question is to what effect. The changing chemistry wipes out tons of ozone.

1.5 degrees of warming is here to stay. GHG emissions are climbing with no signs of slowing. That likely won't take place until the third world reaches the industrialized world's level of wealth, in about 2075.

A plan to 'Sue Big Oil' gains incremental support

In response to that funding gap, in 2022, the Vancouver law firm West Coast Environmental Law, along with several other advocacy groups, launched a campaign to join B.C.’s municipalities in a class-action suit against fossil fuel companies.

Under the banner “Sue Big Oil,” cities who have signed on agree to put $1 for every resident into a fund for future legal fees.

The logic is simple: opportunity knocks!

Lawyers who want to profit from pitching costly legal battles at public expense should bear the cost. They rely on gullible "good intentions" for this sort of statistic:

Support for a class action appears to extend beyond those few communities. A 2022 survey found about 69 per cent of B.C. residents supported local governments suing ‘Big Oil’ to cover the costs of climate change.

These BC residents weren't being asked to pony up themselves. We have a pretty high number of BC residents who are unable to connect public spending with the devaluation of their own income.

Others at the council chambers noted that B.C.’s class-action laws make it an ideal jurisdiction to file a lawsuit. Unlike some others in Canada, the province does not require plaintiffs to cover the other side’s legal costs should they lose the case.

**Lawyers rub their hands together in glee.** And here's the depth of thought these lawyers are taking advantage of:

“Climate change is about debt and paying down that debt,” said Coun. Nathalie Chambers. “We need to pay.”

They're going to pay residents' money they've collected to lawyers who are making a show of trying to make "Big Oil" pay. Lots of $$$ flowing to the law firms, entirely at our expense.

Because Climate ChangeTM is about vacuous and/or opportunistic politicians creating debt for us to pay down, and because vacuous politicians and a too-gullible public believe "We need to pay."

Snowiest two days on record (records began in 1937)... I'm actually surprised 86cm would be a record. When I was a kid we have 100cm in two days out the Chilcotin, and this place gets less precipitation than Osoyoos, so kinda surprising that an actual snowbelt can't event get as much snow as a semi-arid location!

N.S. abandons Atlantic Loop, will increase wind and solar energy projects

Nova Scotia is abandoning the proposed Atlantic Loop in its plan to decarbonize its electrical grid by 2030, Natural Resources and Renewables Minister Tory Rushton has announced.

The province unveiled its clean power plan calling for 30 per cent more wind power and five per cent more solar energy in its power grid. Nova Scotia's plan relies on continued imports of hydroelectricity from the Muskrat Falls project in Labrador via the Emera-owned Maritime Link.

Right now Nova Scotia generates 60 per cent of its electricity by burning fossil fuels, mostly coal. Nova Scotia Power must close its coal plants by 2030 when 80 per cent of electricity must come from renewable sources in order reduce greenhouse gas emissions causing climate changes.

The clean power plan calls for an additional 1,000 megawatts of onshore wind by 2030 which would then generate 50 per cent of the the province's electricity.

"We're taking the things already know and can capitalize on while we build them here in Nova Scotia," said Rushton, "More importantly, we're doing it at a lower rate so the ratepayers of Nova Scotia aren't going to bear the brunt of a piece of equipment that's designed and built and staying in Quebec."

These boneheads have learned nothing from Germany. Anyone want to bet how long those coal-fired electrical plants stay decommissioned? About two days after the first cold weather hits and everyone is freezing to death because they have no electricity. SO DUMB. And all in the name of fairy tales too. That's the dumbest part.
