Smart Home Devices
Re: Smart Home Devices
I think it's a good idea to stay on top of new technology. It helps the old mind keep working.

Anytime somebody comes to my door or rings the doorbell, I get a notification, I can talk to them, and if they have a package I can open my garage door so they can put the package inside. Pretty cool.
Jehovah's Witnesses will be disappointed as now I will just ignore their knocking, but hey, that's their problem.
That must be one smart doorbell if it can pick up on their knocking

It can alert you even if somebody is at your door, it has a motion sensor. But you can regulate it so it doesn't go off every time a car drives by if you're facing a road.

If I choose I can have my security camera, that is focused on my driveway, send me a message when someone is in a certain area. The doorbell camera too as well as when someone pushes the button.

Is it just a plug that is smart?

I have a light sensitive timer that turns the lights on at dusk and off again after 4 hours. I think that is pretty smart.

Mine are as well but I'm not ready for Christmas lights yet. I am prepared for all of my DW's decorations which includes many, many lighted ceramic houses. I have enough switches to turn them all on/off with a single command but will have them on a timed routine as well.

Yes. I set it to turn on 30 minutes after sunset and off at 11:23 pm everyday except Friday and Saturday nights when they turn off at 12:31 am.

Too bad that we could not set lights to use random timing.
Then it would appear more likely that someone was at home.

Re: Smart Home Devices
I picked up a Google Home for $39. That's $70 off the reg price.
I didn't need another smart device but for that price it was hard not to.
Besides the BW said to get it and I never say no to her!

Sweet! How's the sound quality on this one? I've been told you can actually listen to music on it as speaker is good quality as opposed to Mini which doesn't play music nicely.
Also, is the deal on Google website? Me wants.
