That's my point you never seem to get the latest version, it's usually at least 2 versions shy.

Well if you recently downloaded it should be version 1903 which is the latest one, but after installing there will still be updates to apply.

It sounds like you expect them to issue a "latest release" every week to have you completely current and that's simply never going to happen.

I understand just fine.

I have done 2 computers this week and neither one installed 1903 from a newly created USB.

Just to double check I downloaded the media creation tool from above link and it gives me version 1903.

Good to know. I must have gotten an older version somehow.

1903 is the 10 may 2019 update. You can download the ISO here, but only with a non-windows computer.

Just finished downloading free win 10 to my old win 7 desktop.
Not a computer wiz at all but it went seamless over 3 hours.
Did not even have to put in my win 7 key letters and numbers.

Do you mean free from the past free period? Or is this some sort of "new" free?

Free since they started the free period, it downloaded and is running 1909
I just went to the Microsoft site and searched for windows media creation tool ( a neighbor told me to look for this)
then clicked on download and during the download clicked on update my computer instead of new system startup.
I also did not have to burn discs or use a usb

My understanding is you can still do this for free if you don't do a clean install. As long as you tell it to save your info it is supposed to work.

I did 1 a couple of days ago with no issues as well. But be warned this is going to end the middle of january.

So if you are going to do it do it now!

Yes, I also clicked on save my files and settings and it did.

Before I try this "upgrade", if I download the update as an iso (which I did) and then try to install after Jan 14 will it work? As in will it be free or do I have to run the iso before Jan 14?

Or do I run the iso and then revert back to 7 (if I wanted to) and save 10 for a future update?

I've been running 7 for so long and I really like it. I don't want to go to the MS snooping 10 with all their "telemetry". All the doom and gloom about no more support for 7. Don't really believe it. Been a very long time since I did an update and no issues whatsoever.

I'm not sure if doing that will work. I think you need to download the Media Creation Tool and install it that way.

I believe you can use the iso if you click on the exe of the iso from within windows 7 and it will install windows 10 and use the serial of windows 7 to update. If not, then definitely use the media creation tool.

The reason I am hesitant to say a ISO will work is that I tried the MCTool from a USB and it forced me to download the MCTool and do it from within Windows 10.

Just spent around 2 hours cleaning up my computer since my win 10 refresh.
I downloaded Advanced System Repair Pro and went with the manual fix instead of paying for it.
Took me a few minutes to figure out how to do the manual fixes/ deletes and it works Great.
It also let me update 21 drivers that I had no idea how to do.
My computer is cleaner and much faster now.
It found malware and errors that AVG free did not find or fix.
