Depends on the chemistry of your battery, where it was made, and what device it is in.

There were a number of incidents where Samsung phones burst in to flames. Not only cellphones, but electric vehicles, vape mods, laptops, etc.

An ill-designed product where charging circuits cause the battery to overheat, or an enclosure that puts mechanical stress on the battery, or battery manufacturing defects etc. The engineering needed to fix lithium battery power issues is on-going and improving all the time. Unfortunately, lithium is dangerous. Lithium is explosive when exposed to water and burns in humid air. The world needs better battery tech.

I have a sony erricson from 2006 that I can't kill. Never replaced the battery.

^^^Friend back East uses a flip phone and has a couple of new ones - got them through Fido Dollars before they were discontined - for backup in case the one he's currently using gives up the ghost. I get a free upgrade every 2 years on my plan and get to chooose from 3 or 4 models. First upgrade let me keep the old phone - new upgrades the phone has to be turned in. Friend needed a cell for her part-time job and couldn't afford to buy one so I gave her the old phone (circa 2016) which she activated on the cheapest talk/data plan she could find.
