Regardless, from your article: 5 min charge will get you 100 miles with this battery and is expected to lose 20% of its capacity after 1000 cycles, so after 100000 miles, your vehicle already only has 80% of its effective range.

I hate these types of articles. They're always so miss leading.

They make the reader think this technology now exists and it's ready for prime time. The reality is usually one of:
- Exaggerated claims.
- Perfect circumstances.
- Forgot to tell you that they actually made 10 and only 1 worked.
- Big deficiencies than are not mentioned or glossed over (Eg - Charges in 5min so long as it's kept at -50* in a freezer while doing so. Or Weights 3x as much as normal batteries, or requires a certain metal or production process that makes it very expensive, etc.)

Like the thousands of articles about medical research claiming to have a cure for cancer - I don't give it much consideration until I actually see people advertising cancer cure for sale.

Good point. Make that "Until a reputable seller is advertising cancer cures for sale" Although I'm sure that someone will tell me that Beth Sue with her made up title of "Diagnostic Nutritional Specialist" is reputable.

So let's try a 3rd time "Until someone offers for sale a Health Canada approved cure for cancer." ;)

GM statement on switching to ev by 2035.

https://www.gm.com/electric-vehicles.html

"GM is on its way to an all-electric future, with a commitment to 30 new global electric vehicles by 2025. We are aggressively going after every aspect of what it takes to put everyone in an EV because we need millions of EVs on the road to make a meaningful impact toward building a zero-emissions future. GM is positioned to design, engineer, and produce EVs for every style and price point, and we are rapidly building a competitive advantage in batteries, software, vehicle integration, manufacturing and customer experience."

Lets see how price competitive EV's will be when demand for rare earth metals push the price up exponentially for the minerals.

Some day when X % of Electric vehicles have been purchased the price electricity is going to go through the roof.
At that moment EV owners will :cuss: and complain.

Anything that will power vehicles, be it dino juice, electricity, or hydrogen will be a commodity that will make big profits for the producers. But I think I'd rather have an EV with far less moving parts to wear out along with the high maintenance costs. Tires, brakes, washer fluid and no stinky pollution out a tailpipe sounds good to me. Oh, and the superior performance is a nice added bonus.

one thing about ev is the constant torque . you can light up the tires at 100 mph if you wanted to .just depends on the gearing

Wait for the price of Lithium and the other scarce minerals needed for batteries to skyrocket with demand. Then come back and tell me how much cheaper the EV will be in a decade.
