Unless the whole vehicle burns to the ground, these vehicles may re-ignite if not properly taken care of. So after a crash if somehow a fire is miraculously put out, the vehicle will be towed and quarantined. Hopefully the EV doesn't re-ignite while in tow. Since there are thousands of individual cells and you don't know the state of them all, you don't know what will happen if you move the wreck.

Firefighters work 16 hours to put out fires in a Tesla Model S. This Tesla started on fire three times in one day so they had to keep an eye on it for 16 hours. Apparently this all started with a flat tire.

PEAK RENEWABLES!

The World Will Run Out of EV Batteries by 2025

"according to a new Bank of America Global Research report, the global EV battery supply is in danger of running out completely as soon as 2025."

BTW, I don't believe in peak oil nor peak renewables.

I can see it now,
"sorry, we are short on replacement batteries for your vehicle, we expect to have a few in stock next month. They are $30,000 plus installation and recycling fee and tax for a total of $40,000. Will that be cash, debit, or do you need a battery loan?"

Why Are Politicians Ramming Electric Vehicles Down Consumers’ Throats?

The introduction of EVs will be synonymous with open-ended road-use taxes. Once enough EVs have been adopted the tax will be introduced not just in Australia, but the USA, Canada, and everywhere else. Being green will not save anyone from higher taxes. Governments always want more.

"From the Australian state of Victoria comes the news that drivers of electric vehicles are unhappy about having to pay a vehicle-miles-traveled fee (road tax).

New South Wales recently enacted a 2.5 cents/km mileage tax, but EV owners will not have to pay the tax until 2027, because the state government does not want to discourage people from switching from reliable, long-haul transportation to short-haul battery cars."

People will always complain about paying any tax. We can't have what we want for free. Supply and demand drives free-market pricing, maybe per-use fees will make us realize that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. RIP R.A.H.

A bit of an update on your comment.

The big looming problem with old EVs: It’s really, really hard to change the battery

Even on a vehicle with only 150,000 km, battery replacement can be more expensive than the car's value

So Brander set out to do what he assumed would be easy: Call the dealer and buy a new battery. But the Powell River man soon discovered that virtually no B.C. dealer had ever installed a post-warranty battery, and they even struggled to quote him a price.

I think I'll hang on to my ICE car for a bit.

^^^ I'm holding on to my ICE too!
Otherwise we're feeding a mandated system that sends billions to auto manufacturers encouraging them to make just EVs whether they are wanted or not. All the posturing and fake virtue from leaders is hubris as they are blind to the downsides. Most people not having a home where they can charge an EV is the least of all problems.

Certainly, people realize paying tax is important, but I'd rather not pay higher taxes so others can drive new luxury vehicles in a climate crusade based more on belief and fear than science.

EV makers try to attract buyers on the advertised idea they are a less expensive means of travel based on the cost of recharging. EVs have a tiny market penetration and road taxes are already being planned to recoup lost revenue. It is conceivable that driving an EV in the future will become more expensive than an ICE today. I am sure this will make EVs more popular. By 2030 there still won't be much market penetration. EVs are lightly used. Most people with an EV have one as a second vehicle.

Biden wants 100,000,000 EVs on US roads by 2030. A ridiculous and impossible task even if you were to sell vehicles at gun point you still can't make them that quick. With $7500 rebates, it means $750 billion dollars goes to vehicle manufacturers so who want to build EVs even if few want them. The average person watches on as western countries pile on enormous green debt without accomplishing anything. All the while, inflation and taxes rise.

Right now everything is slow. Slow charge times. Slow sales. As the world is trying to decouple from China we are still hopeful they will buy our EVs. We will find out sooner than later how quickly renewable energy sources will fail. California is already restricting what times an EV can be charged.

I've read that article. The funny thing is, a few years back, I predicted that these vehicles will have no resale value. This only goes to prove that prediction.

It will be along time before EV and FC vehicles are everywhere. There is still plenty of time to research and build better combustion engines. Here is a new old engine design in the pipe being tested.

https://achatespower.com/worlds-cleanes ... l-express/

This motor looks quite interesting. Walmart will be testing this new motor (an opposed piston design). A 10.6L diesel that runs cleaner, more efficient, delivering massive torque, less friction, with no cylinder heads and valves, in a smaller form-factor. Achatespower received a grant from the military to design a combat engine. Apparently these engines will more easily run off hydrogen, and natural gas. They can also be made for passenger vehicles and meet the most stringent environmental standards in the world.

We've determined that EV batteries can be an expensive replacement, if one can find them.

How about those Tesla Falcon Wing doors.

Maybe that's why Elon wants to sell us "smart" cars, specially built for dumb drivers.
