Making a custom map

Hey Techie folks.
Does anyone out there know how to make a custom map?
What I would like to do is create a map with "pushpins" so to speak.
I have a group of friends from all over the province and I would like to create a map, pinpointing where everyone lives.
Any ideas?

I suspect if you login to google maps or google earth they more then likely would have exactly what you are looking for.
