Signed up with LS on Thursday for the 75Mbps plan for $49.95/month (only $39.95/month if you opt for the 12 month contract) and renting a modem for $2.95/month. Within minutes of signing up, they called to confirm all the details and sent out the modem via Canada Post the same day.
We are paying $85/mth with Shaw for 600 Mbps unlimited.
We haven't had cable for over 10yrs so we use internet for everything.
No home phone, but a free mobile phone, $0 for unlimited calling and texting.
I had the $45/mth mobile ph but reception was so incredibly bad I went to free.
All in all I think that's a better price than what I've seen so far.
Not overly happy with the mobile, but hey, it's free.

So far its been good, haven't tried streaming any movies yet. See how that goes in the next couple of days.

We had the 300Mbps, not only won't they budge on the price, they wanted to increase the price if we renewed the contract [icon_lol2.gif]

Thanks for sharing! Mind sharing a copy of your bill? Blank out personal information of course.

Shaw doesn't advertise a 600Mbps service. They do offer a 750MBPS service. Currently advertised online for $110/month and I suspect there are extra fees that get tacked on. https://www.shaw.ca/internet/plans#plansOverview Sounds like you're getting a great deal from them!

Their included mobile phone is an interesting benefit. I'm going to have to look into that more to understand how it works and the true benefit. Does it work when getting reception from various "Shaw open" wifi hotspots all over the place?

Lightspeed is now my wifi provider.

A bit of a rough start as instructions not included to reset modem but was walked through process by a tech. $40.00/month.

All is well.

Just about a month in with LS and no issues or complaints yet. Service has been flawless, streaming works like a charm. Got my first bill yesterday, it was half of what my monthly rate was because they actually credited us for the 2 weeks of the billing cycle we didn't have the service, never had that happen with Shaw or Telus

Guess I spoke to soon, now I have a complaint.

Got my bill on the 11th, paid it that evening and just checked my email and they just sent a "2nd Notice Past Due" notice and if they don't receive payment within 2 days they'll suspend the account. This "past due" notice was sent on the evening of the 12th :135:

On the invoice they sent on the 11th, it says that payment "is due on or before the date of the invoice". Huh? :135: Yeah, I'm not gonna pay something before I review it, that just ain't gonna happen.

First of all, I set up an account with my bank app to pay the bill, like I do all other bills, well, that takes a couple of days to process, just the way it is. Second of all, I gave them a full month's payment as a deposit when I opened the account, so they've already got their *bleep* covered if I decide to bail on a bill. Third, I'm not into checking my private email account every hour so this had better not become a habit with them. And no, I am not setting up an automatic withdrawal with them, been burned a couple of times with that in the past and I like to be in total control over my money, especially when it comes to a company I'm not familiar with.

Anyway, guess I'm gonna have to give them a call in the AM and have a few words with them about that - not cool, not cool at all.

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for sharing. Hope they have a decent explanation for you - can't imagine what that could be tho.

So they said that the invoice should have been sent out on the 1st of the month and don't sent out "past due" notices until two weeks later, but because we started our service during the middle of the billing cycle, there was a "glitch" which is why we got our invoice on the 11th. The young lady on the other end was polite, but did mention that "just so you know, if you pay through your banking institution, payment can take up to 3 business days", well, yeah I know that. I told her that I can't sent a payment until I receive an invoice and if you offer a payment service that takes up to 3 business days, well, thats something that they need to take into consideration.

See how it goes next month I guess.

On the plus side though, I called and got through right away, if it were Shaw or Telus, I'd still be on hold being reminded every 30 seconds that "my call is important to them" [icon_lol2.gif]

That's true. If you read the "terms" in the invoice, it says "payable upon receipt". Not much room for contemplating about it. We pay it electronically too, and I believe, only once we were late (rather lazy) for about a week, without paying it, and they emailed us a warning. They are very anal about it, but they won't cut their services off for that.

Anything fishy, they will hear from me.

I know how to raise a stink. :200:

Looking into Lightspeed - my current provider keeps trying to upsell and I'm tired of their incessant calls.

I'm a luddite about internet - still prefer wired to wi-fi. Is everyone else out there in the 21st century, using solely wi-fi?

My desktop is wired, my other 2 devices are wi-fi
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

I have their modem (w/o wi-fi), but I have my own router, with both wireless and wired access. Other than my work computer and the surveillance system, all other devices are wireless, including TV and a plethora of automation gadgets. 150Mbps service, but I routinely get download speeds in excess of 200. Never had a bandwidth issue.
