Win10 Screwup May 11/21

Post by NotNorthAnymore »

Anyone running windows 10 and MS office applications.
The update this morning screwed up all kinds of things.
Redo the update from this afternoon.

For me all the emails had no text in the body past the first line. :cuss: :cuss:
Also multiple MS applications were not working properly.
Tech I had work on it says it was MS and they have now fixed it.

It is always better to wait a few days to do updates to avoid this kind of problem.
That goes for anything. MS, Apple, Android etc.

What kind of things were "screwed up"?
Which email had no text in the body?
What MS apps were not working properly?

I just installed the update and had no issue, as far as I can tell, with email on the browser, MS word and excel appeared to be working fine.

Main issues for me was that when you open Outlook (new version) and click on any email all you could see was the first line of the email.
Everything else was blank.
When you went to type in an email it would make each line invisible when you hit return.

Also the update installed some sort of MS news weather and sports thing in the right hand side of the toolbar.
I could not find any way to turn it off.
Guy I hired was able to get rid of it.
He also had contacted MS and they admitted that there were multiple problems with the update this morning and that they 'fixed' it by around 3ish PM.
Not exactly sure what else was affected, but my hired tech had multiple phone calls coming in as he worked on mine for the same problem.

AskWoody is now at Defcon 2.
Recommends to pause all updates.
https://www.askwoody.com/2021/ms-defcon ... -patching/
It’s time for both business users and consumer or home users to pause Windows updates.

Accordingly, I’m changing the AskWoody MS-DEFCON level to 2. Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don’t do it.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Our cyber crew issued an email statement yesterday talking about the outlook issue and it was an outlook problem which was not due to an update.

You could still view emails in outlook on the web and it didn't affect everybody.
