While I’m at it......lol

Post by binky11 »

They say it’s virtually impossible to get a virus on an Apple device. However, leave it to me.........this is what I got the other day.........I have had problems with the iPad too, keyboard not coming up when needing to type something, web sites crashing etc. Was I the only person in the world to get a virus on an Apple device? Lol. ....

Oh I don’t think it was a valid warning from Apple. I just assumed it was a scam? Didn’t even occur to me it could be legit. How cynical we have had to become lol. I hear there is a pretty good tech guy here on Main Street in Westbank. Maybe it’s time I took it in to be checked out. Definitely having some issues, and it’s not that old. 6 th generation. I don’t think that’s considered a dinosaur yet?

Apple products are not as secure as they used to be. They can get a virus just like the other guys.

Apple viruses is like COVID in China. You know it happens but just don't hear about it.

Not to mention, "888-775-1640" does not appear to be an Apple number. You might have installed ransomware.

Whenever you see those types of warnings the first thing to do is DO NOT call the number given ... if you're really worried, call your tech support of choice, look up the Apple tech number on the web, dial up Simply Computing ...

Pretty much all platforms nowadays have a decent level of security built into the operating system. I have both PC and Apple devices here with no anti-virus software installed, and never had any problems. Staying away from shady sites would help as well.

If by PC device you mean Windows operating system, it has antivirus installed (Microsoft defender) and does a decent job.

Windows Defender or Microsoft Defender as Microsoft refers to it now, has had consistent excellent ratings in its ability to do what it's supposed to. For a time the name Microsoft Security Essentials was also used.

Combine that with common sense computing habits and problems are avoided.

Just in case it needs to be said, it is never a good idea to run two antivirus products on any device, something that I've seen too often.

I didn’t think you needed an anti virus program on your iPad. What is a good one to use?

Bitdefender is the same antivirus program as windows defender?

Pfffft, what fun is that?

I use Avast on the Mac, don't have anything installed on the iPad Mini or my iPhone. iPad Mini is a Gen2 and only used for travelling, so we don't feel the need to install any software for it. Both the iPad and my iPhone have very few apps installed and any email that I don't recognize goes straight into the trash and any FB friend requests I don't recognize or second/third/fourth accounts from friends, don't get accepted - also, I don't click on any of those "What kind of potato are you? The results will shock you!" links.

I certainly thought I was being very careful. Never answer those silly things on FB. I have heard about them. In fact I only use FB for the classifieds. Maybe I will try avast, but thinking it may need expertise help. Thanks

If you mean does avast have an IOS version of avast, yes they do. https://www.avast.com/en-ca/free-ios-security. Not sure if your windows version of avast account can be used on IOS though.
