By the time Win 10 is no longer being supported you will be able to pick up a used Win 11 with decent specs for a lot less than $500.
It's hard to win an argument with a smart person but damn near impossible with a stupid one!

There are some people still using Win 7 so I'm sure Win 10 will be around for quite some time yet.

Thats what i do , the support for security for win 10 goes for atleast 2 more years , an then if a person does need to upgrade , you can get mini pc on amazon for less than 500 canadian that will come pre loaded with win 11 .

Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 release until October 14, 2025. From microsoft .

This is just a example , there is literly 100 s to choose from but this is amazon reccomondation which i tend to look for because i trust their judgment on items i cant see in front of me before i buy it

https://www.amazon.ca/KAMRUI-Mini-N5105 ... 089&sr=8-3

You can get mini pc at local places also like bestbuy , londondrugs prolly , walmart i might guess , you can even get a pc on a usb stick to lol that has win 11
Good to know us dinosaurs will still have Windows 10 support for a couple more years. That mini-computer IS quite a change from the traditional tower! Something else to look into. Thanks for suggesting it.
There are some pretty smoking deals to be had now in used (refurbished) computers. I had a machine delivered with these spec's for $560 from Walmart:

- Intel I7 4790 processor (4 cores at 3.6 to 4.0 GhZ) with hyper-threading making the 4 cores perform (very close to) 8 cores.
- 32 Gigabytes of ram
- A one Terrabyte Solid state hard drive that's super fast.

It runs like greased lightening even if it's not the bleeding edge of current technology.

The caveat here is that it came with no operating system installed; the SSD hard drive had nothing on it (you can't boot up out of the box), so it was up to me to install an operating system and everything else from scratch. I was well prepared to do that when I ordered the machine online.

This machine blew me away for the price. It has exactly the spec's that Walmart advertised and I'm very impressed with it's performance. Following up after my purchase later to see what other deals where available, I found nothing of this machine's caliber for less money, but all the other more expensive machines came with Windows 10 installed. I didn't need it to come with an operating system installed; just give me the hardware and I can deal with it.

As for Windows 11, I won't need to care about it for some time. It seems like Microsoft is shooting itself in the foot once again.

Kind of like this. On sale for $344, with 64b Win10 installed. As good a deal as these sound, one could get a brand new laptop with Win11 around $600 with an 11th gen i5. These old machines are nice work horses, but are still significantly slower than a new computer with a solid state drive, and processor that is 7 generations newer. Tough call. Old motherboards and power-supplies scare me.

I know what your talking about with respect to power supplies; had to replace a few in the past. But I've never had a motherboard fail on me. I do have a solid state drive on this re-furbished machine and other upgraded stuff that was not available for order on this HP machine when it was new. And yeah the newer generation CPU's are a bit faster even on a laptop.

But I didn't want a laptop; got a decent one already. Wanted a bit more muscle in an upgradable tower with more connectivity. I know it's older generation but I put it through some stress tests that totally satisfied me.

All of this running simultaneously:

- Microsoft Flight Simulator in flight
- Open Rails train simulator in complex scenery
- 4 unique browsers running including Chrome, MS-Edge, Firefox and Brave.
- Multiple tabs open in all the above browsers including some that I know are JavaScript heavy.
- video running in the Brave browser.

The simulators offered great frame rates running beside each other. This load pushed the CPU up to 55% utilization, but I couldn't push Windows reported RAM utilization over 13 GB. I have 32 Gb, but don't think it's wasted. Windows will use RAM that active processes don't use to cache data from the hard drive (even if it's SSD).

I knew very well the performance I wanted when I ordered this old workhorse. I'm very satisfied in what it delivers.
