M.2 Expansion Card Question ?

Post by DataCruncher »

As I've not done this before...

Does an M.2 PCIe expansion card with four slots require all the same type/brand/spec to be installed, or can they be mixed?

I would had thought they can be mixed.
It can hold 4? All in a pcie x16 slot?

Sure, I would probably get the unit that supports both PCIe 3 and 4, if it mattered.

Thanks J, so that I'm clear on this, I can safely use mixed sticks? Does it matter in RAID setup, and would they need to be formatted as MBR?

I’m not sure if there are specific limitations. M.2 cards can be mixed though from what I hear.
Anything specific you’ll have to play with.

"Unused CPU PCle lanes can be assigned to storage, allowing you to create a bootable RAID array with multiple M.2 SSDs."

Would that require bifurcation in BIOS? :135:

For those using Asus brand:

[Motherboard] Compatibility of PCIE bifurcation between Hyper M.2 series Cards and Add-On Graphic Cards

* Due to CPU behavior, CPU RAID function only supports Intel® SSD.
