I should be so lucky. I use my ipad probably 14-16 hours daily. It’s my radio, audiobook reader, youtube player, email, facetime, castanet screen, camera and photoshop, news provider and endless google searcher.
My new bag of 5 new cords with correct 5v/2.0-2.4A, 8 pin, copper inner cores, aluminum connectors will be opened soon I suppose.

Standard failure mode for all OEM apple cables. They prioritize the look and feel of the outer jacket over the durability.
I used to make a living repairing electronics. I've done may repairs similar to the video. Here are my thoughts:
1) The video makes it seem MUCH easier than it really is. This is something that takes skill and practice. While I wouldn't call it expert level, the average Joe who knows how to work a soldering iron will struggle with this. In most cases, the end result will be failure and/or the cable never really going back together properly.
2) When you can buy a quality replacement cable from an online seller for less than $5, I personally think it's a waste of time to spend 1hr+ trying to repair instead of replace.
A change we made at home that has greatly reduced our charge cable problems is to purchase a couple of wireless chargers. All apple equipment made in the last few years has the ability to charge wirelessly. Super convenient and I rarely use a cable to charge anymore.

I’m with you on this my charging cable for my iPad and iPod touch are in great shape (had them since I purchased the devices, so many years).
Probably should update iPad before needing new cable.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests. I am an old cantankerousness grump that happens to be very opinionated.

Thanks Tyler. I have gone with buying replacement cables in bulk now. My idea was to save up failed cords for a skilled visitor with the skills to rejuvenate them but forget that, into the garden they go.TylerM4 wrote: ↑Jan 15th, 2023, 8:07 am Standard failure mode for all OEM apple cables. When purchasing replacements on Amazon I always read the reviews. There are countless others carping about how cords just don't hold up for very long.

Looked back at my Amazon history I bought a replacement cable June 24,2020 for 13.59 it was 4.5 stars had over 13000 reviews... I keep it next to my night stand and it doesn't really get abused, but I think there is something that makes the strain reliefs disintegrateCatsumi wrote: ↑Jan 15th, 2023, 10:08 amThanks Tyler. Another option that I use on my Samsung S20 but which is also available for Apple is magnetic connections. The cable in my truck (needed for Android Auto) always seemed to go out due to the repeated use I guess, so I decided to go with magnetic that is data transfer capable and it has worked fine.TylerM4 wrote: ↑Jan 15th, 2023, 8:07 am Standard failure mode for all OEM apple cables. I'm guessing it's also easier on the phone jack as well since you aren't constantly pushing it in or pulling it out.
My phone has wireless charging capability but my truck doesn't, not to mention it's also much slower.

Re: Ipad/iphone charging cables
have you tried charging covers?
Using a different outlet?
Do you remove it by pulling on the plastic piece not the cable?

test that assumption at your earliest convenience
