CarryTel ISP
Has anyone tried CarryTel? They’re advertising $30 per month for 75 and $50 per month for 250.
Or do you have any better recommendations?
Cheers!

Never heard of them before and their website doesn't seem to offer those prices ... I'm sorta skittish about anyone offering better prices than the infrastructure owners own services ...

Read the fine print on those prices, most appear to be "For the 1st 3 months".
I can't speak to this ISP, but I can say that I've had a great experience with Light Speed Internet. They don't play games with "1st 3 months at a discounted rate" which I appreciate and their costs appear to be very similar once you get past those 1st few months.

Right. Two 1/2 years in and no price changes [yet]TylerM4 wrote: ↑Oct 23rd, 2023, 8:32 am Read the fine print on those prices, most appear to be "For the 1st 3 months".

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: CarryTel ISP
I assume small ISPs buy bandwidth wholesale from larger providers. Similar to the buying and reselling of long distance phone plans back in the day. If I do an IP lookup on Internet Lightspeed (my ISP) it returns Diginode Networks Inc. as the ISP. My main concern with small ISPs is what happens when they take on too many new customers. Do they buy more bandwidth or start throttling? My guess is the latter. Before I signed on with Lightspeed I asked about throttling and they said they don't throttle but instead do "shaping" when necessary to give all their customers an equal share of available bandwidth. I've been with them for years and never noticed any throttling or decrease in speeds. Another concern with small ISPs is since they don't own the network coming to your home they'll usually make you pay for a technician to come out. When I was with Teksavvy Telus was charging $75/hour to troubleshoot network issues. Ouch!
