BTW, thinking this might have been a virus in my tablet, I downloaded Avira. No sign of an infection yet.

It's fine now? If not try flushing DNS cache on the tablet, clearing browser cache, reinstalling the browser, installing/reinstalling the FB app, using a different browser for FB, rebooting the tablet/router/ISP modem. ... I'm out of ideas!

I can't see this being a virus unless it falls under the "annoyance" category.
