Cox who was in favor of the Skaha Lake development basically takes a shot at mayor and council for the way they handled it. Interesting move. The more I look back the more I regret the fact that John Vass didn't get in. I would love to see him jump in and straighten both Cox and Jak out with his experience, intelligence and lack of ego compared to the other two.

Looks like you might get your wish, Southy. Pretty obvious that he is going to toss his name into the hat on Sept 6th; not sure why he is waiting til then. If he does, Jak and Cox might as well not bother putting up signs; they'd be done.

Your are absolutely correct XT. If Vass runs for mayor and I have no reason to believe he won't it's lights out for both Jak and Cox ... I see an embarassment for both if they continue to move forward as candidates for mayor. Vass will eat them up.

I do have this nagging thought that we will see at least one more person come forward for the mayor's chair .. I think her ego is just to great for her not to run. Yup you guessed it ... Ms. Sentes. Time will tell.

Surprised we haven't seen more come forward for councillor ... what's up with that?

Cox and Jak might as well save the dough on making/putting up campaign signs; waste of money, if Vass goes for mayor. Re Sentes, I actually hope that she DOES run for mayor; she would lose as well and then be off council for a good 4 years at least. Vass all the way!

Sentes is not interested nor would she win. And besides that, I actually think that if she had any aspirations.....now that Vaz is in the race she has enough respect for his ability to not dilute the vote.
As to surprise about not seeing more come forward for councillor, the flood gates will open soon. One only has to read the local rag to read who the "guest" columnists are as well as the letters to the editor upsurge by a certain few to see who is dipping the toes into the water to see what the temperature is.
Brian and Lynn bing the most obvious whacko's.
The local rag and it's editors sunk to a new all time low by printing Brian's guest column conveniently just months before a civic election when he has ran in the last two elections and never made it past 3 digits of support. Seriously, the guy is even too radical for the Green Party.

I'm always surprised by the support Vass has.

He was on the council that put out the RFP for Skaha Park that included waterslides as a possible use.
He was on the council that agreed to terms with Trio that included an option for a waterslide in the future.
He was on the council that commissioned the design, approved the costing and first phases of the downtown improvements (and he benefits from those improvements).
His vision of improving the downtown includes renting a property to a pawn shop.
He was on the council that created the economic action zone, then took advantage of it by converting a basically un-rentable property into a boutique mall and residences. So he converted a property with no revenue into a revenue stream plus took advantage of the property tax break that he helped create.

Despite these things he seems to get a free pass from the public. The only thing he did was flip to the no side on the waterslides before than the rest of the current council. This was actually one of the issues I had with him prior to the last election as he seemed to flip or flop based on the last lobby that saw him.

Yes he is a successful businessman, but he has also benefited financially from his time on council. He supported the waterslides until it became apparent that there was a public backlash. It may have taken them longer but the current council also came around on that subject and they were probably hindered by the legal ramifications of the contracts. I don't fully understand the appeal besides the "Anyone but Jak" sentiment that is out there.

I can’t help but think Penticton voters want change for the sake of change. The only mayor elected for a second term since 2000 was Ashton, and he rewarded the voters by quitting two years into his second term.
I think Vass has a good chance of getting elected, but his past record leaves me believing he will be voted out in the next election, just like the rest of them. I just haven’t seen anything from his time as councillor to make me believe he has anything different to offer.

So I've been doing a little bit of pondering over Vass running for mayor. And the more I ponder the thought that maybe just maybe John's address on the steps of city hall might be for him to endorse another candidate. What better way for another candidate who just might be well known to gain even more credibility than having someone like John Vass praise their worthiness and encourage citizens to vote for him/her. Then who knows … maybe John will turn around and let his name stand for councillor thus insuring some cohesiveness and sanity in the council chambers.

Have to admit though … I've had these pondering moments before and non have come true. But hey .. makes for interesting pondering on a quiet long weekend Saturday. :130:

I think the fact that he has already approached one of my co-workers asking for a campaign donation leads me to believe he will be throwing his hat into the ring.

Not sure that he likes either Jak or Cox, so doubt he would be endorsing anyone in the mayors race. If he ran for councillor, he would most certainly get in; however for mayor, most likely but not for certain. Who knows what the other guys have up their sleeves. I like his conservative ways of NOT spending money that we don't have, so he gets my vote. I think the Parkade idea for the SOEC/Casino area will become an election issue. Not sure how John voted on the Casino move or if he was even on council then?
Note: remember, the mayor only has one vote on any issue and technically has no more power than any councillor, if he/she does the job properly, so he could be effective as either mayor or councillor. I also think that the Senior vote in this city will be a big factor should Vass run for either position (to his advantage).

Sounds like a fair and decent candidate. Would be one that could do a lot better than some of the dead wood presently sitting on council. I like the fact that he is not running for mayor; he knows how stepping stones work, unlike Jason Cox.
Regarding Mr. Taylor, before the union haters comment negatively, please consider being nice, at least this once.

Rumours I hear out of City Hall is that Vass. WILL announce he is running for Mayor and Jake Kimberly will announce he is running for council. If these rumors are true this will get more interesting.

Vaz will be the new Mayor IMO.

Problem is that it is a train wreck of hat's in the ring so far for Councillors. Kelsey lol? Horjeskwhatever lol? Now add powder blue blazer and white pants to your election choice for input on 100 million dollar annual budget.
