I am very impressed with Amarjit Singh Lalli, Loyal Woolridge, and Gord Lovegrove for councillors.

I was also very impressed after speaking with Joachim Nierfeld (running for Trustee).

I suggest you check them out.

Amarjit Singh Lalli - local man, grew up here, Rutland based. Works in the agriculture industry. I listened to him answer questions about water use and he has concerns about the future of agriculture and water in the valley. He is intelligent, has a degree in business and is very common-sense. My questions he answered well also.

Loyal Woolridge - spent a year attending council meetings as research. That alone inclines me to vote for him. When I asked him questions about downtown he didn't spout platitudes but made it clear something needs to change and that he intends to get things done.

Gord Lovegrove - he's an engineer with the "take it apart and put it back together FIXED" mentality. He specializes in city planning and sustainability. His opinion is not "form a committee" but "find someone who actually knows something about this and get their opinion". He believes in getting opinions and then doing something. Not the endless round of committees. Also, I know someone who works at the university, who knows him. She said she doesn't care for him at all but that he is very capable.

Joachim Nierfeld - for Trustee everyone was rather fixated on the whole SOGI 123 thing. I asked about Basic Skills. You know, how we are passing kids who shouldn't be passed, how these kids are entering life with no basic skills. Joachim was able to answer my questions clearly and concisely. As opposed to say, Norah Bowman who was said yes it is a problem but we can't damage the self-esteem of these kids and so need to pass them anyway. She implied that society is changing so we won't really need those skills anyway. Definitely not voting for her.

I also attended the forum yesterday as well as the one hosted by the seniors living retirement center on Oct. 2nd. I haven’t decided on my choice for mayor but I can concur that I have been impressed with Lalli and Woolridge. I liked that they both are committed to working hard as council members, both had a good handle with many of the issues facing the city without being fixated on just one. I was also impressed with incumbent school trustee Julia Fraser. Very committed to all issues facing the school district - she talked to me about finance, transportation issues, teacher resources, etc. Remember to vote as the person organizing the forum said there was only a 25% turnout last election. PS - I was happy to see a number of young people at the forum.

Lalli, Wooldridge, Lovegrove are socialists. Their plans to help downtown include moving those addicts a few miles away, and building a home for them in a senior and young family neighborhood. See today's Castanet article, "Homeless house strikes fear".

https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-s ... htm#238130

Lovegrove's downtown plans also include taxpayers organizing a patrolling of the streets at all hours. Vigilante justice in mind?Because he also suggests they take self defense courses.

Forget these three. :135:

I wouldn't call Lalli a socialist, he's a small business owner (two Subways) and an orchardist. Sounds capitalist to me

Lady tehMa, thank you for sharing your observations. It further cements my support for those 3 candidates.

Loyal Wooldridge (very positive)
Amarjit Singh Lalli (positive)
Gordon Lovegrove (somewhat positive)
Graeme James (another one I find interesting)

Incumbents I feel positive about:
Charlie Hodge (very positive)
Ryan Donn (very positive)
Brad Sieben (positive)
Mohini Singh (somewhat positive)

Lukewarm on these incumbents:
Gail Given
Maxine Dehart

The others I don't know enough about or wouldn't support. Jeff Piatelli seems like a well-intentioned candidate but I feel he brings in too strong of personal opinions.

Loyal Woolridge seems very prepared, I'm leaning towards him.

Graeme James I didn't get to speak to - what do you find interesting about him?

Ryan Donn I feel positive about as well

Brad Sieben I will definitely be voting for again

Mohini Sigh I'm not sure about. She seemed very involved at the meeting, but when I sat and watched the council meeting on the Capri plan, she appeared bored and distracted throughout (I'd appreciate your take on that, if you want to watch it through. It is a SLOG, though).

Charlie Hodge I didn't get to speak to. I have voted for him before but have been concerned about his health. He did appear well at the meeting, though in the Capri plan meeting he sounded as though he was at death's door. You could barely hear him, but you could hear the sucking sound of his oxygen very clearly.

I too have reservations about Maxine Dehart.

Gail Given I was on the fence about - but after speaking with her I'll vote for her again. I asked her about a) the Clement corridor and b) how the Houghton Road bike lane doesn't connect to anything. She had answers that were detailed about both. In the case of Clement she said council was waiting for the second crossing study in hopes of getting government cash to help put it through, mentioned how expensive the whole plan was and that when it is going to happen it will be so expensive there won't be any other capital projects until it is done. The bike lane thing, she said that plans are to connect it up and that there is money set aside in the 10 year plan. She promptly pulled out a printout of the 10 year plan (well-thumbed, with many notes scribbled on it) and looked through it to show me the budget line regarding it. The enthusiasm she showed for talking about these things and her preparedness secured my vote.

Mo Rajbally - I did talk to him and I'm glad I did. He appeared to be enjoying himself, and I asked him "What do you expect to accomplish if you are voted on council?" He said - and I'm paraphrasing here, for the censors "I'm a POOP-disturber, I expect to disturb all the POOP!" [icon_lol2.gif]

Unfortunately, some candidates showed up with nothing for handout info...
Just a business card. Pls bring handout info, candidates!

Rutland residents should give fair consideration to
Singh, Sieben and Hodge...the only ones who voted against the
poor location of a drug rehabilitation center...very close to schools.

I will not vote for any of the mayoral candidates, at this point.

Chelsea Frank is a good Rutland trustee candidate and Norah Bowman has good experience for a trustee.

I want to start by saying it is wonderful to see so many people discussing something as important as the future of our city. I come in to this forum because I am a regular reader, not much for interaction but I am working on that. Today I felt I needed to speak up on behalf of my husband Charlie Hodge. I have been following the comments by forum members and their thoughts on candidates. I am very impressed with members and their break downs of candidates and with the class you all have shown in this process. That is what our country is about, the right to vote. There are good and qualified people running in this election. I can only speak for Charlie. Lady teh Ma addressed Charlie’s health.

“Charlie Hodge I didn't get to speak to. I have voted for him before but have been concerned about his health. He did appear well at the meeting, though in the Capri plan meeting he sounded as though he was at death's door. You could barely hear him, but you could hear the sucking sound of his oxygen very clearly.”
Your comments were fair and worth addressing. I thank you for your candid opinion.

I want to address this problem. Charlie had a major jaw surgery. He had 9 inches of bone taken out of his leg and put into his jaw, attaching it to a titanium plate, for further details check out his website or Councillor Hodge facebook page. He has come through quite a fight so yes, he is a fighter, If he sounded like he was at death’s door, it happens when you lose part of your jaw (no disrespect to you Lady teh Ma), how would you know, but speech is sometimes difficult for him as it takes time to heal. That does not take away from his council experience and knowledge, his work for the common person. We really do have to work on the volume of the oxygen tank this is true. Ask Vital air about that, I have. Charlie loves this city and all the people that reside here. Please check out his councillor Hodge facebook page or website: charliehodge.ca., even better give him a call at home 250-979-7254. He is available, he is in the phone book and he is good at representing everyone. He doesn’t hide from anyone or anything.

To conclude on my soap box, Charlie would not be running if he did not feel well enough or capable. He has too much respect for the city and the citizens he represents. Please give him a chance to show you.
I thank you for allowing me to speak on behalf of this kind and giving man.

As evidenced by my previous posts, I am a huge supporter of Charlie Hodge.

Particularly because he voted against both the 2 most concerning items in my very humble opinion:
-Freedom's Door in Rutland
-Downtown Hotel on the waterfront by Westcorp (not recommended by the city planning department)

I recognize for many it would be challenging to go against the majority of council votes but I do genuinely feel he is representing the interests of Kelowna citizens of now and the future. The man is genuine and truly a people's representative. I support Charlie Hodge and hope you can too.

I saw his 5 minute interview from another local news outlet and to me it seems he is very humble, honest, and pragmatic. Also has prior council experience.
